Chapter 11:part one

760 Words
The crisp autumn air carried the rhythmic, dull thud of wooden training swords striking straw dummies. In the clearing just beyond the ruined northern palisade, a small group had gathered. They were the omegas and younger pack members of Blackwood. For generations, this clearing had been reserved exclusively for alpha elite forces. Today, it belonged to those who had previously been forbidden from learning how to survive.Lizzie stood at the center of the court. She wore tightly laced leather bracers over her sleeves, and the steel dagger Talia had gifted her was securely sheathed at her hip. Before her stood seven omegas, their expressions a fragile mixture of intense anxiety and desperate hope. They looked at Lizzie not as a lower-caste peer, but as a living testament to what was suddenly possible."The old ways taught you to hide," Lizzie said, her voice carrying clearly across the quiet morning air. She paced down the line, her posture straight, her eyes steady. "They taught you that if a raider or a rival alpha breaches the walls, your only job is to scream and wait for a protector. But protectors can fall. And when they do, you are left alone."She stopped in front of a young girl named Maya, who was trembling as she held a heavy wooden practice blade. Lizzie gently adjusted the girl's stance, moving her back foot a few inches to give her better balance."We are not going to match them muscle for muscle," Lizzie explained, turning back to face the group. "If an alpha pins you, you cannot overpower him. But you can outmaneuver him. You use their size against them. You strike the throat, the back of the knee, the soft tissue under the chin. You don't fight to win a duel—you fight to buy time, and you fight to kill."From the edge of the tree line, a deep, resonant rumble of approval echoed.Ramond stood leaning against a massive oak tree, his arms crossed over his broad chest. He had spent the morning overseeing the timber haul for the new palisade, but the moment Lizzie’s training session began, he had positioned himself within striking distance. His blue eyes tracking her every move with an intense, unyielding pride that he made no effort to hide from the rest of the pack.Lizzie caught his eye and felt a familiar warmth flush through her veins. She pulled her training dagger from her belt and turned to Maya. "Come here. Try to grab my throat."Maya hesitated, glancing nervously toward the massive Commander watching from the trees."Don't look at him," Lizzie said with a soft smile. "He’s not the one you have to worry about. Step into my reach and grab."Maya lunged forward. Lizzie didn't step back. Instead, she slipped inside the girl's extended arms, dropped her center of gravity, and lightly tapped the butt of her wooden blade against Maya's collarbone while simultaneously sweeping her foot behind the girl's ankle. Maya stumbled back, blinking in utter shock as she found herself off-balance and entirely exposed. The other omegas gasped, a sudden, electric spark of realization igniting in the group. It wasn't about brute strength. It was about mechanics, leverage, and ruthlessness."Again," Lizzie commanded, her eyes flashing with a fierce, beautiful determination. "And this time, don't hesitate."As the group broke into pairs to practice the movement, Ramond slowly walked into the clearing. The training omegas instinctively parted for him, bowing their heads in traditional deference, but Ramond barely noticed them. His focus was entirely locked on Lizzie. He stepped close, his massive frame casting a warm shadow over her as the autumn wind picked up."You are a natural leader, my queen," he murmured, his voice a low, private vibration meant only for her. He reached out, his large hand gently wrapping around her waist to pull her an inch closer, entirely unbothered by the eyes of the pack."They just need to know they aren't helpless, Ramond," Lizzie said, resting a hand against his chest. "They've been told they are sheep for so long that they forgot they have teeth.""You taught them how to bite," Ramond said, his thumb tracing the curve of her hip. He leaned down, his lips brushing the shell of her ear. "The whole pack is talking about you. The elders are furious, but the younger generation... they look at you like a savior. And my wolf is roaring with pride."Lizzie smiled, leaning into his touch for a brief, stolen moment before turning back to her students. "Go back to your timber, Commander. I have a revolution to run."
