MIA'S POV My body felt warm under a really soft blanket and I couldn't get myself to wake up feeling so comfortable. By then I was coming back to consciousness and the first thing I felt was ache in my left shoulder which was hung on an arm swing. I gave out a groaned while I struggled to get my visions clear. I was not in the room allotted for the players but in some place that looked like a palace. I got up in a startle being aware of a different surrounding and ended up hurting my shoulders more. “s**t” I frowned feeling the pain and all of a sudden, a man rushed into the room and came to help me. I looked at his face and remembered that he was the same man I had saved last night. He held by body and helped me rest against the bed and kept a pillow on my back. “how do you feel now” he looked at me and asked with a bright smile and I still had no idea who he was so I gave him a nod indicating I was okay. I took a deep breath and calmed myself. He handed over to me a glass of water and a pain killer to help me with my pain. I looked at him with a displeasure to have the nasty tasting medicine and he again gave me his smile. “if you have this now, I will give you a reward that will make you proud of having taken the decision to have this” his pleasant smile turned wicked as he gave me the offer. I was never a fan of jokes but this man had the power to affect my mind. He had some kind of aura that kept on pulling me closer to his antics. I took the tablet from his and had it. The bitter taste filled my mouth and I gave a tight reaction to it. It was all because of him and I looked at him in regret and seeing my expression he walked towards a table besides me and took something from it. I waited to know the reward he promised for my bravery and he put forward his fist. What, the reward for my high bravery was only a fist sized one? It irked me in a way I couldn’t understand. I grew more irked and opened his fists only to be fooled for a toffee. The usual me would have turned into the wolf in me and scared him to death for such a disastrous prank but his prank had touched my heart. It was no ordinary toffee but a cappuccino caramel one. Memories triggered inside me making it tough for me to control the rush. Was he whom I thought him to be? Was I feeling the connection to because of who he was? I had a hard time believing it and he waited for my response. When he understood that I was lost in my thoughts he brought me back to senses by introducing himself. “hi, I’m Dylan. Younger son of Michael Hyman, the alpha of the neon bay, the 3rd pack” he handed me over the toffee and turned it for a shake hand. It was him. Dylan. My heart began pounding and I couldn’t help but smile at him. ‘that was a pretty long one” I shook his hands and he was glad I did it. It was nearly impossible for me to believe that I was smiling out of happiness after ages. This meet had made my day. I kept on staring at him like a statue and he waved his hands to wake me from my illusions. “I know you might have never seen such a handsome man ever in your life hence I permit you to take a nice look at me till your hearts content” he bragged about itself and I burst out a laughter hearing it. Gosh he hadn't changed a bit. His face lit up seeing me smile and soon it turned into an emotional attack on me. “I’m really glad to see you smile. You had worried me sick for the last 2 days” he took my hand on his and talked to me looking into my eyes. I saw it was teared up and I didn’t want him to shed it. “don’t cry now. I would have done it for anyone” I gave him his answer and he wiped his tears and smiled again. But why was his eyes moist?? “please don’t tell me that I had been away for 2 days” I was shell-shocked hearing it and in a pleading tone asked him to deny the fact by he nodded a yes and I in a hard way hit my head back on the bed. I expressed my frustration in a very bad way and he sat wondered. “by the way you haven't introduced yourself girl” Dylan asked me with a puppy kind of face. Now he had begun to make me embarrassed a lot. This man was a fully frown alpha son still he was a child at heart. “Mia, from hawks eye pack” I introduced myself with a but of guilt and his eyes popped out hearing it. “what?” I raised my eyes seeing his reaction. “hawks' eye? The pack which is known for its best tracking skills?” his eyes gleamed in excitement. “yesss” I was astonished by his extreme behavior hearing the name of an ordinary pack which was way below his own. “woah I had heard a lot about the pack. I always wanted to increase my skills from you but mother never let me leave the territory” he became dejected remembering it. “maybe I can help you with that till I'm here” I winked at him and his mood shot up with euphoria. We talked for some time and I had still been observing each and every corner of him. He was a really handsome man I must say. Any girl would have dreamed of getting a mate like him. “hey I forgot. Mother wanted to meet you. I forgot about it in our talks” he straight away conveyed it to me the moment it crossed his mind. It was not his fault that he forgot, anyone would probably lose his mind when they are too much involved in any matter. But that was not the thing to worry about. I had to meet his mother. A lady who was feared by all the lycans. The only female alpha amongst the alphas. The one who hosted the triumph festival for the past 2 decades. Guilt rushed through my blood when I imagined her. I had to meet her at all costs. I agreed to him and he happily left the room to find her. I was drowned in the memory of fire. I could see nothing but fire. I began to hear screams and terror made my body numb. I was scared by visions and didn’t dare to close my eyes to be a part of it. I got up from the bed with a trembling foot and walked to the windows and opened it. It let in a cool breeze to ease me. It helped me heal as I imagined him and his smile. Without my knowledge, a tear rolled down my cheeks and it surprised me. I had sworn not to let it happen and this day I did. I wiped it and breaking my swear made my anger pay back me a visit. I was filled with rage and his words ran on my ears. It was my mantra to keep myself on tracks. I was interrupted by Dylan who came in and took hold of my hand and dragged me with trill to make me meet his mother. As we passed through the hall room, I got memories seeing the whole mansion in the exact same way as it was years ago. He hurried our way and we reached a closed door that was guarded by 2 guards. The door was literally quite big for a normal one. Without asking us any questions they let us in and we got inside the great office of Diana, the alpha of neon bay pack. The room had the vibe and ambience that perfectly matched the interiors of the mansion. It grabbed my eyes to it and I explored the room with glittering eyes. Nothing had changed, not even a slight arrangement that was done by the late alpha. I stopped my exploration when my eyes fell on the family photo of the neon bay pack’s late alpha. Late alpha Michael Hyman, a man on honesty and faith sat with the now alpha Diana, with their two sons. It was a magnificent picture. One beautiful happy family. But thinking how great the family looked in the photo turned my nostalgic moment into a nightmare. I narrowed my eyes in grief and it was noticed by Dylan. “What happened to you? Why do you seem so dead?” he interrogated me and looked at the photo at which I was looking. “ah that's my family. My dad, mom and big brother. But why are you sad on seeing it?” his voice turned from the kiddish one to a serious man’s. I was caught and I had to escape the situation somehow. I massaged my hurt shoulder in the arm swing and gave a slight painful groan. “im not sad, im frustrated due to this" I immediately put on an act and stretched my neck as if doing an exercise and his kiddish side was back. I was relieved from the busting situation. “yeah, I had seen it when I came to your room when you woke up” his carefree reply made me feel a guilt because he was too innocent to be betrayed but I had no other choice than lie to him. I had my own reasons. He took me to the sofa which faced the table of the alpha and made me sit down and he went to get drinks for me. I looked towards the alpha’s table and my eyes finally met the one they were hunting for. A lady wearing a pretty violet gown was sitting on the alpha’s seat and was on a call. She had big black eyes that looked smoky with the makeup she wore. She was way too young for her age which was somewhat 50’s. I had my eyes fixed on the figure and waited for the time she got free and we got to talk. But I don’t think that was going to happen soon because the call she was attending had already occupied her and I eve dropped her fuming conversation with the one on the call. “how dare you give me the report that the lone wolf has crossed the territory and no one got to track it? What the hell are your trackers doing there?” she screamed on the person and my lips turned into a wicked curve. “I want to get the full information about the wolf before it wreaks havoc in the territory and make sure to increase the guards. Don’t forget about what happened 2 nights before. If anything happens to my son, I will be the one wreaking a havoc. Remember that” she was on fire roasting the person and hung it up with a bang. I smirked hearing she was talking about the arrival of the lone wolf and that the lycan board feared it too much. Lone wolfs were considered to be of the most rogue nature as they didn’t have a pack of their own and there was only one lone wolf in the whole of lycans but no one knew who it was. she lifted her head and our eyes met. We had an eye lock and the meet I was waiting for had finally came. She looked at me for some time and then a big smile appeared on her face. She walked up from her seat and came towards me. My breath rate increased as her figure approached me. As she got to me, I stood up which for her was a sign of respect and I had meant it. Everything around me for the time being went into oblivion when an unexpected action took place in the room that left both me and Dylan shocked. She had come closer to me and given me a warm hug. Dylan was holding a coke can that slipped from his hand when he saw the scene. Diana saw it, still focused on making me comfortable and I was way too blown to have her in front of me too close. “Mia, right? You have no idea what you have done to me” she withdrew herself from the hug and held my arms saying this. I had no idea what was she referring to. She decoded my confused expression and looked at Dylan and that’s when I got the meaning of her words. “you had just saved my heart from being shattered to hell by saving him” the mother inside her had an emotional eye as she thanked me. “oh” I reacted gladly as it was the best decision I had taken and because of it I was able to save him from such an attack. Attack! I quickly turned the subject to the that about the attack. “have you got to know who were those people and how did the reach the territory? Who were they?” I wanted to know what was the threat that was surrounding Dylan. “hmm. They were hunters who had got to know about the festival. We have started to investigate the matter more deeply” the alpha in her had already spoken her words. “but tell me one thing, what were you doing there in the night and how did you get to know they had wolf banes?” she sounded just like Dylan who had interrogated me just a minute before. it was like mother like son feel. Dylan got him included in the conversation by answering her on my behalf. “mother, she is from the hawks’ eye pack. What else can be the best answer for your question” he proudly told her and she looked at me with surprise. “hawks’ eye...no wonder how your senses are too sharp. Your pack has well prepared you for the games” she praised me and I gave out a giggle. My giggle was mixed up with the suddenly feeling of lost which I felt after all these years of hard work, I had lost the opportunity to play in the games. I took a deep breath and in a low tone spoke up. “I had come here to be a player in the games and now I don’t know what else to do staying here” I made up a depressed face and it helped me win over her just to try for a chance. she realized the reason for my reaction and gave out a laugh and Dylan too joined her in it. “you really are a dedicated player aren't you” Dylan teased me and I raised my brows in response. “the games have been postponed as we got to know about the attack. we wanted to look into the matter seriously and also increase the surveillance for more protection. so, don’t worry about missing your games "she calmed me and this reply. I was dumbstruck hearing that the games have been postponed because of me. My heart boomed in relaxation as my years of wait had not been wasted and that fate had indeed begun its games with me....
