Chapter 4

Aria immediately pouted and tugged at Vincent's sleeve and said, "Vincent, Leah have been tormenting and hurting me. Are you really not going to stand up for me?" Her eyes turned red and glistened as she continued, "When we were little, you promised my parents that we would be friends for life. You said you would always take care of me." The moment she said those words, the faint trace of hesitation or pity Vincent had felt toward me vanished completely. He turned and glared at me sharply. "Leah, apologize to Aria right now." I looked back at him, cold and unyielding. "Vincent Devereux, you want me to apologize to that two-faced liar? Never." "Vincent," Aria's tears spilled instantly, as if on command. "Leah looks down on me from the bottom of her heart and hates me so much. I might as well just end it all." Vincent's face flushed dark with rage. Seeing her chance, Aria added softly, "Maybe let Leah spend some time in the steam room you had built specially for me? Let her rest there for a while. Perhaps when she comes out, she will stop being so cruel toward me." I caught the flash of malice in Aria's eyes and sneered silently in my mind. 'She thinks she can fool me? I see right through every single trick she plays.' 'The time to strike back has finally come.' 'Today, I will make them pay a price they will never recover from.' As Vincent grabbed my arm and dragged me toward the steam room, I quietly unlocked my phone. I set up all the hidden cameras in the house to stream live to a public platform. "Think long and hard about what you have done," Vincent said, shoving me roughly inside and slamming the door shut. "Leah, this steam room was installed only to help Aria manage her cryophobia. After how you have treated her, she is still willing to let you use it. You should be on your knees thanking her for her kindness. Reflect on all your wicked acts these past two days. Do not make me regret this marriage even more." I stared straight into his eyes, saying nothing. My cold gaze seemed to make him shift uncomfortably, and he quickly turned and walked away. From outside the glass, Aria's sweet, coquettish voice drifted in. "Vincent, I think my cryophobia is acting up again." "Then let me hold you close to warm you," Vincent replied. Through the fogged glass, I could make out their bodies pressing together, tangled in an embrace. But inside the room, the temperature began to rise sharply and rapidly. I looked up at the thermometer. The numbers jumped wildly: 122°F, 140°F, 158°F. This was no accident. They were trying to kill me! "Open the door! Vincent! I can't breathe! I'm going to die!" I pounded on the glass with all my strength. The burns on my arm and chest felt as if they were being set on fire all over again. The pain threatened to overwhelm me, but the two outside were too lost in their own desires to hear my screams. Just as my vision began to blur, and my legs gave way, a loud commotion erupted in the hallway. "This is the house from the live stream! I can't believe it! He really is with that other woman!" A crowd of people holding phones rushed in. Their camera flashes lit up the room and exposed Vincent and Aria in a compromising embrace. "Unbelievable! She pretended to be just a friend to get inside his home!" "Hurry! Save the wife! She's locked in the steam room! She's going to pass out from the heat!" Someone pried the door open. The moment fresh, cool air rushed in, I collapsed onto the floor, gasping for breath. Right then, several uniformed police officers stepped inside and held up official arrest warrants. "Vincent Devereux and Aria Yorke," one officer said firmly. "You are under arrest on charges of domestic abuse, medical fraud, and attempted murder. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."
