We arrived at the restaurant.
"Clere Reservation," I said to the woman at the reception. She glanced at the person next to me for a moment before looking at the reservation list.
I turned to Calyx who was standing behind me, waiting for me.
"Our waiter will assist you ma'am," the woman said smiling, glancing at Calyx again.
I rolled my eyes.
"This way ma'am," the male waiter said.
I walked over to where he stopped. There is a four-seater table there. I sat down and thanked the waiter.
He smiled and nodded politely.
I glanced at Calyx who was looking around. When he caught me looking, he turned to me. I immediately looked away and took my cellphone.
I saw Maggie's message.
Maggie:
Are you there?
It was sent minutes ago.
Me:
We're here
I replied.
Then I put down my cellphone. I looked at Calyx looking at me.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
I nodded.
"Are you comfortable?" he asked softly.
I didn't say a word. I remembered the picture in his car again so I snorted. I wanted to ask him who it was but I couldn't speak.
It's like something is blocking my throat to ask that.
"Yeah," I said and smiled.
He frowned.
"You sure?"
"Why not?" I spat.
He was surprised but immediately grinned.
"Do we have a problem?" he playfully asked.
"No," I answered.
His eyes narrowed as if he didn't believe what I said. I rolled my eyes at him.
"Don't tease me!" I spat angrily.
He laughed for a moment and stopped immediately.
"Relax baby, I'm not doing anything!" he defended with a smirk.
I snorted and didn't say a word. I want to strangle him badly!
But why does it sound so good when he calls me baby?
Damn it!
"I'm not a baby and I'm already twenty-three." I said, annoyed.
His lips formed 'O'.
"So, my baby is twenty-three," he chuckled.
I bit my lips when chest pounded.
"Hi guys! Sorry it took us so long," Maggie greeted suddenly.
I turned back and saw the two of them walking in holding hands. I stood up and hugged Maggie. Chase looked at me before glancing at Calyx.
"It's okay, Calyx and I were able to wait, right Love?" I stopped for a moment and looked at Calyx with raised eyebrows.
Shit. I'm going to be teased by this man again!
"Uh-uh, no problem,"
Maggie smiled and sat down. I also sat next to Calyx. I took a deep breath when I heard his little laugh.
I glared at him.
"Let's order food?" Maggie said happily.
"Sure! Waiter!" I called the waiter.
We started to order food and while I was looking for my food, I stared at the price. My jaw dropped when I saw the price of the water.
Fifty-nine pesos?!
Calyx glanced at me.
"What's your order?" he asked softly.
I didn't say a word and just swallowed. When he saw that, he slowly approached me. I stiffened when I felt his body on mine.
"You're trembling," he commented.
"Shut up," I said shakily while pointing to a dish of roasted beef with sweet corn.
He chuckled.
"You want that?" he asked.
I nodded.
"Two roasted beef with sweet corn," Calyx said to the waiter.
Maggie glanced at us and smiled.
"You two look so good together," she snorted looking at Chase.
Chase coughed and looked at her. He smiled and seemed to agree with what Maggie said.
"Yeah, I'm so lucky to have her," Calyx said and kissed my cheek.
I was surprised by what he said and did he just kiss me? On my cheek?
What the hell?
Maggie giggled and I couldn't help but smile.
My heart was beating so loudly! I looked at Chase's face and couldn't read his emotions.
He was just looking at us seriously while his fiancé was so thrilled with us.
I smirked and realized he hadn't moved on yet.
Because if he moved on, he must be happy, right?
He didn't know that Maggie was my childhood friend and Maggie didn't know that Chase was my boyfriend in the past.
Small world!
When our order arrived, we started eating. Now I just eat quietly while Maggie talks to Calyx.
"So, how long you've been together?" she asked curiously.
I swallowed hard and waited for Calyx's answer.
"Almost four months," Calyx said smoothly.
I took a deep breath and thought about that lie.
Four months ago, I remember I had a fight with a client because she accused me of stealing her purse but later on she left it in her car.
Crazy right?
I was about to slap her if Caryl didn't stop me.
"Kendra!" Maggie called.
I looked at them.
"W-Why?"
"Are you okay? You were stunned for a moment," Maggie said worriedly.
Calyx chuckled.
"Are you still hungry? We can order more food," he said.
I shook my head.
"I'm fine, just a little tired," I said softly.
"Are you sure?" Maggie asked.
I smiled at her, assuring her that I am fine.
"So, what's your job Calyx?" Chase suddenly asked.
I was surprised when he spoke. Calyx shifted on his weight and looked at him seriously.
"I work for a company,"
I snorted.
"What company is it? Maybe it's my Dad's company?"
Calyx paused for a while and clenched his jaw.
"It's a small company," Calyx answered coldly.
"Really?" Maggie replied.
I glanced at Chase who was staring intently at Calyx while Calyx was just smiling. I also wonder why he suddenly asked the company Calyx works for.
"You know Martin Enterprises? The one that runs electronics and stuff here in the Philippines?" Maggie asked.
Calyx nodded.
"It's Chase's company but his father is still the CEO," said Maggie.
"Hmm," Calyx replied, as if he wasn't interested.
Maggie and Calyx's conversation continued while I just watched them talk.
Our dinner ended at eight o'clock in the evening.
"Thanks for coming! We enjoyed a lot!" Maggie smiled and hugged me.
"We also enjoyed it, thank you,"
We parted ways after that conversation. I got into Calyx's car and we drove in silence.
"Did you enjoy?" Calyx asked.
I nodded at him.
"That's great," he smiled.
It didn't take long before we arrived at my condo. He went down first to open the door for me.
I uttered a thank you.
"No problem,"
I snorted and didn't say a word. He was looking at me as if he was waiting for something.
"Why are you staring?" I asked him.
He grinned and shook his head.
"You look beautiful today," he complimented.
I crossed my arms
"I'm always beautiful,"
He chuckled.
"Yeah," he agreed.
I rolled my eyes. I remembered the picture in his car so I looked at him with annoyance.
"Won't your girlfriend be angry that you pretended to be my boyfriend?" I fired at him.
He frowned. "What?"
I hugged myself when I felt cold.
"What did you say?" he said laughing.
I closed my fist and was about to leave but he suddenly pulled me. My eyes widened because he was so close!
"W-What the?"
"I don't have a girlfriend, Kendra."
I snorted and tried to push him. Did he just call me by my name?
"You're my girlfriend," he gently said.
"Pretend girlfriend," I corrected him.
He chuckled.
"Why are you so grumpy?" he asked while laughing.
"Get off me! I saw it! You have a girlfriend! Jerk!" I spat angrily.
Hell! Why am I angry?
"Yes, I have and it's you," He laughed, looking at me confused.
I rolled my eyes at him. I tried to push his arms but he was so strong that I gradually lost my energy.
"I saw in your car that you have a picture of a woman..."
"And?" he raised his eyebrows.
I looked at him irritated
"What? That's your girlfriend!" I shouted.
He chuckled.
"Really huh? I said you're my girlfriend, why are you accusing me? Hmm?" he whispered.
"If that's not your girlfriend then why does you have a picture in your car?" I said disgustedly.
Damn it! Why am I talking too much?
He laughed again.
"Why? Are you jealous?" he playfully asked.
"Of course not!" I screamed.
His eyes widened but immediately changed to amusement and amazed.
I'm not jealous! I'm just asking! Damn it!
I tried to get away again but he was really strong.
"She's my little sister,"
I stopped when I heard what he said.
He chuckled at my reaction.
"If I had a girlfriend, I wouldn't be here agreeing to your proposal." he whispered and sent a shiver down my spine.
What the hell?
"Don't worry, I'll put your picture on my car too," a smile formed on his lips.
