"Hailee?"
Emily waved the cups of milk tea in her hand, reminding her. "Will went inside to pray."
Hailee snapped back to reality and glanced at the coffee in Emily's hand. That’s her favorite coffee.
She laughed self-mockingly, hinting at something. "Aunt Emily! You like this Blue Mountain Coffee too?"
Emily lightly clapped the two cups together and stuck out her tongue. "It's not my taste, I wanted a cup of English tea but Will insisted that you liked it and wanted me to give it a try. I have to admit, it tastes quite good. I must say, Hailee, you have a good taste."
Hailee scoffed inwardly but maintained a calm demeanor on her face. "Is that so?"
She had only spent a few occasions with Emily, some meals, mostly forced gatherings by Emily.
That’s the way she talked to her. Emily always played the role of a doting mother-in-law-to-be, never hesitating to elevate Hailee's status.
Hailee had previously thought Emily was a people-pleaser, and considering her decent background, she saw it as Emily diminishing her own presence to make Hailee lower her guard.
Mary said that Emily had high emotional intelligence. This was the safest way for them to interact if she wanted to keep her relationship with Will from being exposed. As long as the daughter-in-law-to-be didn't reject her, Emily could live with Will forever.
Emily smiled and extended her left hand, handing the cup of coffee that was slightly fuller to Hailee. "This one is Will's. He only took a sip, are you thirsty?"
Hailee didn't take it.
Emily's gesture froze in place for a while. Feeling a bit awakward, she withdrew her hand, and her smile disappeared along with it. "Hailee, are you angry with Will because of me?"
Hailee finally looked up at her. She thought to herself, did Emily find out?
Emily seemed to understand her gaze and confessed, "You came all the way to North Samar on your own, so Will hurriedly followed you here. Girls like you these days always think that your boyfriend doesn't like you anymore once the relationship between your boyfriend is a bit close to his mother. But they fail to realize that we come from single-parent families, and our situation is quite normal."
Hailee breathed a sigh of relief. So Emily didn't know that she had already discovered their relationship. She only thought Hailee was still upset with Will.
Heh! She’s still acting. Look at her lines, what beautiful lines! it would be pity if she doesn't go to Hollywood to be a scripwriter.
But it was best that she didn't know. Hailee was still holding the legal representative of Will's company, so she couldn't break ties with them just yet.
But Hailee couldn't comprehend how such a beautiful face and such sexy lips could utter such ugly words.
And she’s trying to reverse the situation and convince her through ethics and feelings?
Single-parent family?
Just a little close to his mom?
Listen to herself! How pathetic!
If Hailee hadn't witnessed it with her own eyes, she might have been fooled by her words.
"Auntie, you and your son have a close relationship in a single-parent family, and you guys live together. That makes sense. But in the future, it's me who will be living with Will. Do I have to endure living with you all the time and have no privacy at all? Will always favor you in everything, do you have to endure that too? If that’s the case, I would rather end this unhealthy relationship."
Hailee pushed back!
"When Will was going through puberty, it was just him and me at home. We were poor back then and couldn't afford a big house, so we got used to living together..."
Emily seemed to feel guilty and looked at Hailee with tears in her eyes.
"Hailee, I really like you, and I genuinely hope you marry Will and have children. I can assure you that if you forgive Will this time, I will never live with him again. We won't even meet if there's nothing important. Is that okay?"
Oh, her tears, all fake!
She’s not going to keep her promises anyway!
Perhaps she still saw Hailee as a nineteen-year-old girl.
It had been seven years, and Hailee was already twenty-six.
Such words wouldn't easily cheat her.
"Sure thing."
Hailee glanced at the familiar figure coming out of the church. She smiled at Emily, "Doesn't Will have a small apartment in his name? You can move there, and I will live with Will. We can try living together as a test period. If Will continues to behave this way during that time, I will cancel the engagement, and I won't hold the position of the legal representative of Will's company anymore. Our family's invested funds will be withdrawn as well."
Emily's face changed instantly upon hearing this. She immediately began swearing, "You can rest assured to test your marriage with Will. If I ever disturb you guys, even I won't forgive myself."
She seemed sincere, and if Hailee didn't know the truth, she would have softened by now.
But Hailee knew that this was just a small step in their plan. Everything she had was under their control.
They were still willing to deceive her for now because they needed the investment from Hailee's family.
Of course, except Depp.
When Will saw Hailee, his reaction was similar to Emily's initial surprise.
At first, he was surprised, then he put on a show of deep affection.
He handed a pendant to Hailee. "Babe, I'm sorry. My mom didn't trust me, so she came with me. And the client canceled the meeting all off a sudden. So I can only accompany my mother to pray, and by the way, I saw how exquisite the handicrafts are here, so I bought you a gift."
Thjat’s quite a long lie, but Hailee couldn't pay attention. She only felt that the sun was scorching, the sunlight was blinding, and no matter how hard she tried to open her eyes, she couldn't see his facial expression or the sincerity in his eyes.
She had to interrupt him, "Will, let's live together."
Little did he know, the moment he walked out of the church, she saw him. He carefully tucked another pendant into his pocket. Was he planning to give them to two people?
As soon as she invited him, Will was dumbfounded.
Clearly, he hadn't expected Hailee to make such a move.
Especially with Emily standing right next to him.
This statement was no different from a marriage proposal.
You know, for seven years, she didn't allow him to fully own her.
They hadn't even had physical i*********e yet.
But now Hailee asked him to live with her!
Will remained stunned for a good half a minute before a delayed expression of joy appeared on his face. "Really? That's great! I've been waiting for this day for seven years."
He hugged her tightly and planted a firm kiss on her forehead.
"When we are back to Moon City, I'll go pack my things and move in with you."
Hailee pushed his hand away and smiled lightly, shaking her head. "Nope, it's the other way around. I'll move in with you."
Will hesitated. He was all confused, "You move in with me, but what about my mom?"
He instinctively glanced at Emily. Her gaze was obscure and indecipherable.
Just as Emily was about to speak, Hailee spoke on her behalf. "She can live in that apartment of yours in the west of the city. We'll help her furnish it."
Will's gaze noticeably darkened, and he turned to Emily. "And you agreed?"
