Chapter 17: Small SurprisesCody was the first to get out of bed and hit the shower, after Jace told him where to find towels and a washcloth. While Macon showered in his ensuite bath, Jace whipped up some pancakes in the kitchen. Soon, they were sitting around the table having breakfast.
“So how is everyone this morning?” Macon said, as he passed the warmed pancake syrup to Cody.
“Was yesterday even real?” Cody said.
“It was,” Macon said. “You jumped out of bed so quickly, I didn’t have a chance to check and see if Jace left his fingerprints on you.”
“It’s okay by me if he did,” Cody said. “To be honest, I needed those hugs more than I even realized.”
“I did, too,” Jace said. “Needed to hug you, I mean. Your pops was a real huggy sort of guy. He’d hug just about anyone.”
