Ria and Conrad had been in constant communication with one another. Going on little dates, being disgustingly cute with each other I public. Walking home together if they had classes ending the day at the same time. Some times she would sleep over at his place. It was not a common arrangement since Conrad had a roommate who was also his best friend, Jason. Some days, Jason's girlfriend would be around and they would give them the space they needed. Conrad would walk Ria home almost every night.
This one evening they made an arrangement to spend the night together. Just to be able to spend the night through the morning cuddling and talking about everything and nothing. The arrangement was however interrupted by an unwanted visitor.
Torah. Conrad's ex girlfriend.
She walked in and sat by Jason's bed. Maria had never met her. She just noticed a shift in energy from the people in the room. She looked at Conrad.
"Ria. Let me walk you home." was all he said.
Ria did not protest because deep down she had a sinking feeling in her stomach. She however did not want to over think anything. She just complied and they walked together, in silence for quite the distance.
"That was Torah." Conrad said.
Ria did not say anything back. She was listening.
"She has been trying to get in touch with me again for a while now. Through our friends, and now she has decided to come by and see you for herself. Rumours have been flying. She has been told that I am finally seeing someone new and she's not having it. She has been crashing out and attempting suicide for a number of days now. I am going to handle it though."
"Please handle it. I told you before I do not intend to involve myself in any story that is supposed to be part of your past. Fix it. And if you cannot be with me for any reason at all, let me know while I can still take it. I will be okay. I do not want to be involved in any drama. Hell I liked you first so it puts me at a disadvantage. I am not sure if you actually like me like that."
"Ria, I love you. I don't just like you, and I am going to fix this."
Conrad went back to his place after ensuring Ria was home. She decided not to put her mind on the issue. Music being her comfort instrument, she put the volume of her earphones at a hundred and started playing catchy songs with a fast rhythm. Those were the kinds she would play whenever she would be feeling low. Slow music for when she is too happy. She would do this to create a balance in her emotions.
Conrad called her later in the night to check up on her, claiming he has sorted the issue ad there won't be any problems with Torah moving forward. Ria heard him. She chose to trust him and not question the situation again.
