Chapter 4: His Story

1376 Words
The days are going by so slowly and I'm betting it has something to do with how time moves on this planet and not just because I'm stuck here by myself waiting to die alone. My name is Captain Kyle Shepherd and I'm a fighter pilot within the American branch of the Earth Space Force. It is a military group but it's more for the safety of the planet and our allies' planets and not for conquering new worlds. Most recently, we were pulled into a war against the planet Neba, whose inhabitants are vicious creatures, hell bent on destroying all life but their own and harvesting planets of all the resources until it is a dead hunk of rock floating in space. They are tall, slender aliens but still extremely strong. One of theirs could take down an entire platoon of ours without even breaking a sweat. We compare them to vampires or zombies because not only do they like to kill us, but they do so in a way that would haunt anyone's nightmares. They feed off us, whether he or she be dead or still breathing. You're one of the "lucky" ones if you're already dead. The last thing you see is the excitement and pure evil in their cold dark eyes. They hold up your b****y and bruised body so you're right in their face, which is about a 2 feet off the ground considering how tall they are. Then they open their disgusting mouth, which is filled with rows of sharp, razor-like teeth, their jaw elongates and latches over your mouth, digging their teeth into your face. At this point, they do something that even our most brilliant scientists are still trying to figure out. It's as though they suck out your entire being, your life source, maybe even your soul and only an empty husk of what used to be a person is left behind. I have lost many friends and brothers to these horrible things which I was more than willing to accept my mission and destroy and many as I could even if it resulted in my death as well. It would have been worth it, even if it only made a little dent in their operation. I was recruited for my mission, not to sound like an a*s, but because I was the best. My father was a fighter pilot and my grandfather before him and even more men throughout my family line have been proud to serve in the military. We are strong, smart, and determined, we were made to fight and protect our world. My "k******e " mission was a little over 6 months ago. There was a Neba battleship on its way to earth and would be there in less than a week. This was the largest battleship of the Neba that has ever been seen. We heard rumors that they were working on something big but nothing could be confirmed because we could never get close to their planet without being discovered even cloaked. My fighter jet was equipped with our largest energy weapon, which I was to fly cloaked right into the middle of their battleship, arm and release the weapon and fly out before it went off. There was always a 50/50 chance I wouldn't make it out far enough, if at all and survive, but I was willing to take that chance. We were warned that if this ship made it to earth, we would not survive. According to scans, this Neba battleship had the power to incapacitate all life so they could harvest not only the planet but all the biological life for food and then they would be unstoppable and could easily take over the universe. Of course, we could not this happen. I said my goodbyes to my family and friends and began my journey to the Neba ship. Don't get me wrong, I may be brave but at this point I was terrified, not only because I might die but if I failed, everyone would die. I was to intercept the battleship while it was still 3 days out from earth. The weapon that the scientists made is a high powered energy weapon that when detonated the explosion is massive. Not only will it destroy the ship but anything within a 2 mile radius of the explosion. First it explodes outward, separating and destroying everything, then an implosion, that sucks in all the pieces back into itself and then it all ends with a massive blackhole and everything is disappears into oblivion. I was successful at intercepting the enemy ship without any discovery. I hid behind an asteroid until I had an opening to make it inside. A scout ship was leaving and this was my only chance to make it inside undetected. I slipped through the hatch before it closed and was able to continue through the ship trying to find my destination, the absolute center. This would be the only way to completely destroy the entire thing so not one of those slimy f****rs could escape. The inside was massive and I could see millions upon millions of their soldiers resting in their pods awaiting their wakeup call to destroy my home. Failure was not an option, even if it resulted in my death, it would be worth it. After the weapon was armed, I would have 5 minutes to escape and try and get as faraway from the impending explosion as possible. 2 miles away or further was preferable but I would settle for a good seat to watch it all burn before it sucked me in as well. I was able to find the center of the battleship quite easily and up till this point, everything seemed a little too perfect. I hovered in the air above the spot where I would eject the bomb and began the process to arm it. That is when the alarms started going off, they must have finally detected my ship. My heart started racing and I could see rows of Neban fighters beginning to rise and make their way to me. I worked as quickly as I could and released the bomb. I had 5 minutes to blast my way out of here and now I had to dodge enemy fire as well. I was shooting and flying like a madman, thank goodness I was the best! I took out a couple dozen fighters and finally saw my way out. There was a hatch just ahead of me, all I had to do was blast my way through and fly like a bat out of hell out of there. Just before I was almost out, one of the Neban fighters got a good shot and hit the back of my jet. The hit took out an engine and I was now spinning away from the battleship, there was no way I had enough power to get out of the blast range. I was going to be sucked back in with these assholes and die...but as long as they were all dead too, I made my peace with it. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1...the bomb went off and looking back, the explosion was quite beautiful. A large, green, orange, and white light all swirled together tearing apart the battleship and spreading the pieces out among the stars. The first blast was able to throw me further away and I wasn't torn apart like the other ship. This blast also destroyed the other engine of the jet though, so even if I survived the bomb completely, I would still be dead in the water and would just drift through space until my life support was all gone and I died from suffocation. Like I said before though, it was all worth it. The Neba battleship was now completely destroyed, my mission fulfilled. The second step of the bomb was starting, I could see around me all the pieces of the battleship being pulled back onto itself and folding into nothingness. I could feel my own ship starting to be pulled backwards as well, at least now I won't drift through space wasting away. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and waited for death to come.
