Chapter Seven A working life The world of the circus encampment was a huge contrast to the seclusion of their time at the farm. It was noisy, with a busy round of daily tasks to maintain all the equipment and make everything ready for performances. Clothing, even if just a linen shift, now felt strange and restrictive.
