Chapter Ten
Coming to Life
Melanie paced the small confines of her cage, bare feet padding lightly across the cold metal floor. She had walked the miniature path countless times since Jonathan had left her within. Once again, she ran her fingers along one of the firm metal bars. They were as thick as her wrist and bolted into the roof and floor. She closed her hand around one and shook, but the steel did not budge in the slightest. The bars were set far enough apart that she could reach between them, but there was nothing within arm’s length that would be of any use to her. There was no way that she would be able to slip between them.
