*Chapter 11: Aftermath*
The sirens were deafening.
Blood stained Alessandro’s white shirt red.
“Don’t close your eyes,” I begged, pressing my hands to his shoulder.
“Boss, ambulance is here!” one of his men shouted.
They carried him out. I ran beside the stretcher.
At the hospital, doctors pushed me away. “Family only.”
I screamed, “I’m his wife!”
It was a lie. But it worked.
I sat outside the operation room for 3 hours.
No contract. No money. No sleep. Just fear.
The door opened. The doctor said, “He’s stable. The bullet missed his heart.”
I broke down and cried.
When I entered the room, Alessandro was awake. Pale, but alive.
“You’re stupid,” he said, voice rough. “You could have died.”
“So are you,” I whispered, holding his hand. “Why did you save me?”
He looked at me for a long time. “Because you’re mine now. Contract or not.”
My heart stopped. “What?”
“Selena is gone. But there are more enemies. If you stay with me, you’re in danger.”
“Then I’ll stay,” I said without thinking. “I’m not scared of you.”
He smiled, weak but real. “Good. Because I’m not letting you go.”
He lifted my hand to his lips. “Marry me. For real this time. Not on paper.”
Tears fell again. “Yes.”
Outside the window, Karachi’s lights looked different. Less scary.
For the first time, I felt safe. With a mafia king.
But I didn’t know Selena was watching us from the parking lot.
And she was smiling.
