*Chapter 12: His Proposal*
The hospital room was quiet. Only the beep of machines.
Alessandro sat up in bed, his arm in a bandage.
“Come here,” he said.
I hesitated. “You’re hurt.”
“Exactly. So come before I get up myself.”
I sat on the edge of his bed. He took my hand. His was cold.
“I don’t have a ring,” he said. “Mafia doesn’t do romance.”
I smiled. “I know.”
“But I have this.” He pulled a black chain from his neck.
A small silver key hung on it. “This is the key to my penthouse. To my vault. To everything I own.”
My eyes widened. “Alessandro…”
“Marry me,” he said. No drama. No flower. Just truth.
“Not because of the contract. Because when that gun was pointed at you, I saw my life end without you.”
Tears burned my eyes. “You’re a mafia boss. I’m nobody.”
“You’re my nobody,” he said, and pulled me close.
His lips touched mine. Soft. Slow. Like he was afraid I’d break.
I kissed him back. For the first time, it wasn’t fear. It was choice.
When we broke apart, he rested his forehead on mine. “Say yes.”
“Yes,” I whispered. “Yes, Alessandro.”
He smiled like a man who just won a war. “Good. Because the wedding is in 2 days.”
“2 days?!” I pulled back. “That’s crazy!”
“I’m a crazy man,” he said. “And you’re my wife. Contract or no contract.”
A nurse knocked. “Sir, you need rest.”
He didn’t let go of me. “Then she stays.”
That night, I slept beside him. No bodyguards. No guns. Just us.
But outside, Selena’s shadow moved past the window.
Her phone clicked. A photo. Me in his bed.
She texted someone: `Plan B starts now.`
