Kiara’s POV
The drive lasted about 17 minutes..
I couldn't tell if it was because my scooter was just that fast, or because I was that eager to see him again…
Anyway, I parked my scooter in the nearby shrubs, stepping down from it as it took my time to scan the building. My eyes went up and down the building as i took in the structure
The building stood at the end of a quiet street, looking more like an old apartment complex than anything else.
Three stories of faded brick rose above a narrow entrance, with several windows scattered across its weathered facade. The paint around the front door was beginning to peel, and a few of the windows had their curtains drawn despite it still being early
Nothing about the place screamed danger…
But something about it made me hesitate before stepping inside..
This was where he lived? I thought to myself as I walked into the building.
Honestly, not what i was expecting.
Well, to be fair, I didn't exactly know what I was expecting when I was coming here.
I wonder how Malia must have reacted when she showed up here for the first time.
This place must have been a nightmare for her.
I chuckled as I pictured Malia refusing to step any further than the entrance door, like the floor was made of lava or something..
She always was a clean freak.
I gave a knock as I got closer.
“Aiden?” ! I called out.
Nobody answered.
“Anyone home?” I called out once again..
Still no answer…
Oh well…
I placed my hands on the door, giving it a slight push.
Creak.
It opened slightly, giving me entrance into the house.
And of course… it was empty inside as well…
Was he even home…?
The place was rather silent…
It was almost like nobody lived here at all…
Could malia have been wrong…?
Nah, I doubt it. maybe they did live here…
At least at the time…
So where could they have possibly gone to…?
My enthusiasm had slowly begun to wane as I looked around the house.
Looking for something… anything… that could possibly clue me into where Aiden currently was…
And yet… nothing…
Not a single trace of him in sight…
It was almost like… he didn't exist anymore….
A stinging feeling struck me in my chest as that thought crept into my mind..
No…
I didn't want to feel that way…
Not at all…
***
I spent the next hour or so, frantically combing through the entire building…
searching for any trace of aiden…
Nothing at all….
My efforts were… putting it lightly… unyielding…
I know, anyone who saw me in this state might immediately jump to the conclusion that I was an obsessed girlfriend of some sort, but it's a little more than that…
The last time he was at my place, he was in pretty bad shape, and a big part of that was my fault. So if nothing, I wanted to at least make sure that he was okay…
My mind drifted back to that night…
The wound that had trailed from his shoulder down to his chest…
He lost a terrifying amount of blood back there…
I don't know what was in that energy blast that grandma hit him with, but it looked like it was pretty deadly…
What if he was already–
No!
I instinctively clenched my chest as that stinging feeling came around yet again. I didn't want to even consider it. Steeling my gaze, I made my way out of the building and towards my scooter…
My search had been completely fruitless, I sighed to myself as I reached for the chain to unlock it…
However, just then I perked up, quickly turning around…
I don't know if it was just me, but I could have sworn I felt a pair of eyes staring straight at me just now.
Was someone here…?
I clenched my fists, my eyes scanning the entire area…
No one…
Outside of the bushes littered around the area, I was completely alone.
Alone…
I let out a sigh as my mind trailed back to how I felt all of those weeks ago, when that strange old lady had been looking at me…
Maybe I was just imagining things…
Replaying that memory…
Truth be told, it was creepy back then…
But thankfully it was now nothing more than a memory…
Nothing more than a memory…
Still…
Where did you go Aiden….?
That had been the only question on my mind as I unclasped my scooter, heading back to the school premises like I promised my friends…
However, all throughout my trip back, the same question lingered in my mind…
Where are you… Aiden…?
Narrator's POV
Caw! Caw!
Under the gaze of the sunset, a black bird– a crow– glided through the orange sky, perching itself atop a tree, with which a woman, who was wearing a black cloak sat…
An elderly woman…
The same one Kiara had bumped into all the way back then...
“You saw it too, didn't you?” The woman asked, looking up to face the crow, which had apparently returned her gaze
Poof!
The crow dissolved into a puff of smoke, and in its place stood another woman.
A woman, seemingly younger than the woman who sat at the bottom of the tree.
She was clad in a similar looking attire as the older woman, however, there was a gold brace on her left leg.
“I did.” the younger woman responded, shifting her gaze from the elderly woman and into the evening s “It's just as you said. There is some similarity, but nothing too concrete.” The younger woman seemed lost in thought for a moment.
“She sensed me…” she muttered, more to herself than to the woman on the bottom of the tree…
But she had heard…
The older woman looked at her in surprise “what?”
“It was only for a moment, but I was sure of it.” The younger woman looked up straight into the sky, watching the sun descend into the horizon. “She's definitely not ordinary.”
“So what do we do now?” the older woman asked…
“For now, nothing. We wait. And if anything new happens, we consult with Elder Sarai.” The younger woman, who clearly seemed to be the higher in rank of the two, answered. She seemed to be lost in thought as she looked down at the elderly woman, giving her a meaningful look.
The older woman seemed to understand the look as well, as she nodded in response.
Aria…
If this girl was what they truly believed her to be…
Then she might be the key….
The key to finally breaking it…
