Chapter 9

945 Words
Kiara’s POV Madame Delia… An old friend of my grandma's. Well, at least I think they're friends… I mean, the lady almost never shows up at our place, and as far as i can tell, my grandma doesnt actually visit her either. So what the heck do these women even communicate with….? Messenger crows….? Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did… They're witches after all… Anyway, why am I heading over to her place right now, you might ask? Well, simply put, it's because it’s time for our annual cleansing ritual… The one my Grandmother called The Ostara… I have no idea what that means, so don't ask… But every year, she would go out of her way to burn these weird looking branches in an earthen pot. Branches which she got from– you guessed it– Madame Delia's… Why…? Well, when I asked her why one time, she just said that the ritual was to ward off evil spirits and dangerous creatures from our house. And to be fair, I didn't exactly know any better back then, I was still a kid after all. But I HAVE learned to respect the ritual a little more ever since my witch powers finally awakened. Although, sometimes I still think— “Ugh!” I got pulled from my train of thoughts as I accidentally bumped into someone, I turned around, looking at the person I had bumped into… It was an old lady… And I had accidentally spilled her bag.. “Oh, I'm sorry,” I quickly apologised “I didn't see where I was going.” I bent to pick up the bag, helping the old lady as I handed it back to her. However as she reached for the bag, she grabbed my hand instead… “You're… Aria…?” The old lady looked at me, her face carried a mixture of surprise and… relief? I was beginning to get rather uncomfortable as she kept looking straight into my eyes… Her eyes were boring holes straight into mine… And the silence that ensued was beginning to crush me… Slowly… I quickly removed my hand from her grip, handing her the bag once again. “I think you have me confused for someone else. Sorry again,” I made it quick as I handed her the bag, immediately turning around and heading out on my way… In the opposite direction… As fast as I could muster… I could still feel the woman's eyes staring straight into my back… It sent a chill through my spine, causing me to increase my walking steps… I really should've brought my scooter, I thought to myself as I increased my walking pace… I wouldn't be in this situation right now if I had just gone with it in the first place… But no, I just HAD to “exercise” today… Fantastic… The walk to Madame Delia's house was brief, lasting only about another five minutes or so… Maybe I walked faster because I wanted to get away from that creepy old lady… Maybe… Ding ding! I rang the door bell and a woman who looked slightly older than my Grandma answered the door… “Evening ma’am.” I greeted as soon as I saw her, putting on my best smile as I tried to shrug off the creepiness from earlier… “Evening my dear” the older woman greeted me with a warm smile. Don't get me wrong, I actually didn't hate going to Madame Delia's place, she was a nice elderly woman as well but…. But… There was still the problem of inviting Aiden over… While the ritual was still going on… I never still got the chance to inform him about the whole situation. Well, I was planning on talking to him about it once school had dismissed, but he had left earlier… So I never got the chance… I just hope this whole thing was going to go well… Fingers crossed… “How are Helena and Mabel?” The older woman's next question pulled me from my train of thoughts as I quickly turned to face her once again. I gave a brief nod as I replied to her. Helena was my mothers name while Mabel was my grandma's name. Nothing too fancy… Or witch like, if you may… “They send their greetings…” I nodded as the woman’s face wrinkled into an even bigger smile. “Do you want to come in?” she offered, extending her door even wider. I let out a short sigh as I walked into the door. After the creepiness I witnessed some minutes ago, I need a place to wind down… And right now, that place was Madame Delia's… --- Narrator’s POV Meanwhile, in the distance, a hooded figure stood behind the trees, watching… Observing… The hood around their head stemmed from a flowing black robe, which was wrapped around every part of their entire body save for their hands… The hands which they carefully stared at, especially the left one… With which had made contact with that girl from earlier… They were sure of it… The girl they had bumped into back then was,... She had to be… “Aria…” the name echoed silently as they muttered slowly, their gaze never leaving their hands…. That sensation… It felt like… She looked like… Could it really have been her…?” If it was, then that meant… In any case, there was only one way to find out… The dark silhouette dissolved into a puff of smoke as a crow emerged from it, flapping its way into the boundless skies… Towards the slowly setting sun…
