Chapter 13

Aiden's POV In a few minutes, the table was set and dinner began… “So, Aiden, was it?” her mom started, breaking the silence that had been going on for the time being. I turned to face her, she still had a friendly smile on her face, the same one she had given me earlier. “I hear you go to the same school as my daughter. What's your major?” she asked me I turned my gaze slowly to the grandma, who met my gaze with a visible frown on her face. She had not said anything else after that previous encounter of ours, but I could almost feel a certain kind of malice in that stare… Unnerving… What exactly was this woman's problem with me, I thought to myself as I averted my eyes from her, reaching for my plate once again. “Physical Ed.” I responded, still biting into the meal as I tried my best to avoid the gaze of the older woman… Whose eyes, I could feel, were still on me like a hawk… Whatever suspicions she might have had– or still have– of me, my current actions were definitely not helping to quell them… At all… And then there was that annoying scent from earlier, which still wafted around in the air… Seriously, what was that? … “I see….” Kiara's mother’s voice pulled me back into the room as I quickly turned to face her. “And do you have any after school activities you do,” She stroked her chi as she asked again. “ Like, maybe a job or something? “Well…” I scratched my head, looking for a suitable response to give her…”not quite…” So much for making a good first impression Really…? Her voice carried a little bit of disappointment in its tone. Well that's a shame. She shifted her gaze back to the plate in front of her as she concentrated on her meal. I turned to face Kiara, who was sitting directly beside me. She just gave me a thumbs up, saying that I was doing great.. I didn't feel like I was doing great… Average at best to say the least-- “Aiden…” the older woman called, jolting me once again. I turned to face her, and she still had that stern look on her face.. There it was again… The malice I could feel from earlier… “What exactly are your intentions with my granddaughter?” She asked, her voice was curt, sharp and precise as she stared directly at my face. More specifically, into my eyes. … Everyone in the room immediately went quiet… “Umm, well…” I began, but trailed off halfway. Looking into her eyes now, her piercing gaze was sending a chill straight through my spine. That stern look from earlier had never seemed to leave her face since back then… Why…? And she was so nice before too… And as for her question… For some reason, it seemed like there was another layer underneath it… But maybe I was reading too much into it… There was no way she could have possibly found out that I was a werewolf… That was highly unlikely… Still, between the uncomfortable glares she was giving me and the scent, which seemed to keep growing stronger by the second, my head had slowly began to spin A little bit… “Mom, take it easy.” I heard Kiara's mom chuckle beside the elder woman, “You look like you want to strangle the boy. Maybe that's why he can't answer you.” “And I think you're being a little too trusting of him Helena…” the elder woman fired back, and i heard the younger woman respond with something inaudible… Inaudible to me at least… I could hear the two women bickering, but their voices had begun to slowly trail off… The whole room was starting to blur… And my eyes were starting to feel heavy… “Are you okay?” I jolted as I felt Kiara's hand on my shoulder. She had a concerned look on her face as she raised her eyebrow at me… “I'm… fine…” I responded, steadying my voice for a moment.”I think I see what you meant when you said your family was intense…” my lips parted in a small smirk on that last part. She gave a light chuckle. “What I live with everyday…” I stared at her, then raised an eyebrow as I suddenly remembered . “Anyway, you said you had something important to tell me. What was it?” The smile on her face faltered for a moment as she awkwardly shifted in her chair, scratching her head nervously… She looked like she was looking for a proper way to say what she had to say… Wow, I had never seen her this worked up about… anything… This must be very important to her… I wonder what it could possibly be… “Well… i…”she began, taking a deep breath as a nervous chuckle escaped her lips once again… “This might sound a little crazy, even for you, but I'm a…” she suddenly stopped talking halfway as her face shifted from nervousness to pure concern.”Aiden… are you sure you’re okay?” she reached out to touch my face– around my lips– with her fingers. And when her fingers came back, there was blood on them… My blood… I was bleeding… from my nose… I blinked, instinctively reaching to touch the same area. As I looked at my hand… The horror slowly creeped into my face… Though i tried my best to not show it… “Yes,” I stuttered, trying to regain my composure. “Yeah, I am. It's just an injury I sustained on my way here… it's taking a little longer to heal. That's all.. That was a lie… A bold faced one… I was clearly not fine Not at all… But at the same time, I couldn't have her worrying about me… And whatever it was that was wrong with me, seems it clearly had something to do with the scent that had been in the air this entire time… My wolf side was strongly reacting to it… And that was not good… “Can I use your bathroom?” I turned to look at her, right now, I just needed to get as far away from the scent as possible… And away from her grandmother's eyes… Before she had any further reason to suspect me… Kiara raised an eyebrow, a little confusion spread across her face… umm, Sure. It's in the room to your left, right upstairs. “Thanks. I'll be right back…” I quickly stood up from the table, making my way up the stairs as the other two women just watched my leave… Apparently they hadn't noticed my current situation yet… Good… Because i couldnt explain it either… Something was… happening to me… I didn't know why but I could feel it… My wolf was emerging…
