Chapter 26 Olivia It was always going to come to this, I think as I knock on Marie’s door. It’s open and I find her talking on the phone in the kitchen. It looks like a small tornado has passed through her house. There’s an open suitcase on the living room floor and an assortment of clothes hanging from the dining room chairs. The disarray in the room reflects how I feel inside. I sit on the sofa and look at her—at this spark of energy that coursed through my life. Already, she seems a little different, a little more city than country. She gesticulates wildly and her voice has gone up a pitch.
