Chapter 1

When the assistant called, Avril was being pinned against the car seat by Wilson's firm grip on her slender waist. Outside the car, heavy rain poured down, while inside, a steamy atmosphere filled the space. Driven by desire, Avril unconsciously kissed Wilson's moving Adam's apple. Wilson's hands casually rested on the armrests, his neck slightly arched, his narrow eyes half-closed. Each of Avril's kisses made his sexy Adam's apple bob up and down. After a while, Wilson spoke in a low, husky voice, "Just a fling?" Avril's eyes were red at the corners, and she looked dazed, "Just a fling." Wilson's large hand brushed across her back, a careless smirk playing on his lips, "You wanted to play, so don't come after me later." Adults playing their games, each taking what they need. No emotions involved, no benefits entangled. An hour passed, the rain outside intensified, and the movements inside the car grew fiercer. At the height of passion, Avril bit down on Wilson's shoulder. Wilson hissed, his hand adorned with a jade ring grasping her neck like a kitten, lifting her slightly, "Too hard, loosen up..." Avril didn't respond, her legs trembling, breath hot against Wilson's neck. The heated moment subsided. Avril's red slip dress was in disarray, her body drenched in sweat as if pulled from water, as she bent to reach for her high heel that had fallen into the gap. Wilson's shirt was unbuttoned, his gaze falling on her slender waist, his thin lips curving slightly, "Did you drink something you shouldn't have at the celebration?" Avril didn't immediately respond. After a while, she said indifferently, "Thank you for today, Mr. Wilson." Wilson raised an eyebrow and chuckled, "Thank you?" Just a thank you after sleeping with him? Avril pretended not to notice the amusement in Wilson's eyes, replying coolly, "I'll treat you to dinner sometime." With that, she didn't wait for Wilson's response, pushed open the car door, and stepped out in her high heels. Wilson had been too rough and too long; Avril appeared to walk quickly, but her steps were unsteady. She had to keep up appearances to avoid anyone noticing. After getting out of the car, Avril hailed a taxi home. Sitting in the taxi, she bit her lip, adjusting her emotions. Once she felt calmer, she took out her phone and sent a message to her assistant: "I'm not feeling well tonight. I'm heading home." The assistant replied instantly: "Ms. Avril, are you alright?" Avril: "I'm fine." Whether Avril was fine or not, everyone at tonight's celebration knew the truth. They all thought she had drunk too much, not that she had been drugged. Newly arrived at Wansheng, not only parachuting in but also immediately securing several major projects, her sharpness inevitably rubbed some the wrong way. Tonight's incident was a warning from those old hands. But drugging someone as a warning was a bit too low. Meanwhile, Wilson stared at the bloodstains on his suit pants, lost in thought. Just as he was contemplating, someone knocked on the car window from outside. The next second, the unlocked car door was opened from the outside, and Charles, his old buddy, leaned on the door with one hand, teasing, "Wilson, who would've thought you had such stamina? Even made the car shake like that." Wilson lifted his eyelids to glance at Charles, his expression indifferent, saying nothing as he pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Charles chuckled, "I know that girl, Avril, the project manager Wansheng just poached from Salt City. By the way, doesn't she have a boyfriend? What's his name again? Some vice president of a listed company, let me think..." Charles pretended to think seriously, while Wilson took the cigarette from his lips, exhaling a puff of smoke slowly, "Is that so?" After speaking, Wilson extended his long, cigarette-holding fingers out of the car window and flicked the ash. Charles clicked his tongue in disapproval, "Keep pretending, keep it up." Wilson squinted and smiled. A smile full of mischief, a smile full of amusement. On the other side, after taking a taxi home, Avril soaked in a hot bath, sitting in the tub and replaying everything that had happened tonight. From every drink she had at the celebration, every person she interacted with, to eventually encountering Wilson. She didn't miss a single detail. Finally, her suspicions focused on the waiter who handed her the juice. All the drinks she had were taken from the table, so it was impossible for someone to have spiked them since the culprit couldn't be sure she would pick a particular drink. Everyone present was an old fox; no one would be stupid enough to rely on probability. The only exception was the juice handed to her by that waiter. She had thought he was being considerate, seeing she had drunk too much and offering her juice to sober up, and she even tipped him two hundred bucks. Now, in hindsight, she realized she had been too careless. When out and about, especially as a woman, one must be cautious about anything ingested, no matter how harmless it seems. But even if she figured it out now, it was too late. Those old foxes surely wouldn’t leave any evidence for her to investigate. At least she ended up with Wilson... Thinking of Wilson, Avril furrowed her brows slightly. This "at least" might not be all that great. Avril had actually crossed paths with Wilson once before. At that time, she was the fiancée of Sean, the vice president of the "Rongsheng" group. Because she attended a drinking party with Sean, she ended up drinking a cross-cupped wine with Wilson by sheer accident. That cross-cupped wine incident was still fresh in Avril's memory. It was quite humiliating. Sean, in his eagerness to climb the social ladder, had directly pushed her into the situation, joining the crowd in making a spectacle of her. Avril, to maintain the overall harmony, didn't lose her temper on the spot, but her expression must have been quite unpleasant. Wilson had reached out to her at that moment, leaning down to whisper in her ear, "Don't worry, it's just a drink. I'm not into women." Avril was deep in thought when her phone, resting on the shelf, suddenly rang. She took a shallow breath, pulling her thoughts back to the present. She reached for the phone and, seeing the caller ID, her expression softened. She answered, "Mom." Her mother's concerned voice came through the phone, "Avril, are you home?" Avril replied, "Yes, I’m taking a bath." Her mother continued, "Good. You told me you had a celebration to attend tonight, and I was worried you might have drunk too much. I've been up waiting. Remember to drink a cup of honey water before bed to avoid a headache tomorrow..." Her mother’s voice was filled with care. Listening to her mother's concern, combined with tonight's ordeal, Avril's eyes suddenly reddened. After her mother finished speaking, Avril sniffled and asked, "Mom, how have you been lately?" Her mother paused briefly before answering with a smile, "Good. I don't have much to do all day." Avril asked, "Still no news about Dad?" Her mother was silent for a moment, clearly reluctant to answer. She then changed the topic, saying a lot of unrelated things before concluding, "It looks like it's going to rain soon. I need to bring in the clothes. Take good care of yourself out there and don't worry too much about home." After these words of advice, her mother hurriedly hung up. Staring at the darkened phone screen, Avril's grip tightened. The next second, her phone beeped with a new message. Avril glanced down, expecting a message from her mother, but it turned out to be from an unknown number: "Ms. Avril, you left your underwear in my car."
