29. Find Her Now

1037 Words
Maxson I can’t help feeling panicked as people start to leave, and before I know it, it’s just me, Desta, Stefani, Sapphire, Ruby, and Finch. They all seem to be nervous as they stare at me, but all I can think about is finding my mate. I mean, if I were them, I’d be anxious too. I’m absolutely not keeping my cool. Sapphire’s eyes are red, and her cheeks are red from crying. She’s feeling this almost as badly as I am; they’ve been friends for years. Ruby has her hand on her back, trying to comfort her as everything keeps a safe distance from me. All the alcohol’s haze has worn off, thanks to the adrenaline coursing through my blood, and now all I can focus on is her. We’ve had a connection to each other since the day we came out of that hellscape, and to lose it just like that is tearing me apart. “She isn’t anywhere in the house.” Lucien runs back into the room, having done a sweep of the house for me. This is one of the only moments where I wish Damari were here. I’ve already messaged him and told him what was going on because I need him here, now, to help me with this. I can admit I’m not in the right mindset to handle any of this. I’ve never been without her like this. “Where’s Rina?” Sapphire finally asks, and I look around as Stefani answers. “She went to bed a little bit ago.” There’s no way I’m letting her sleep through this and not help, so I go charging up to her room, ignoring Stefani’s pleas for me not to go up there. I make it there and don’t even bother to knock as I break the door. I hear her scream as I step into the room, and when she sees it’s me, she yells at me to go away, her voice sounding frantic. I look at her, holding the covers up over her presumably naked body as some random guy does the same in her bed. “Get out!” She screams at me again, and I stare at her, then the man in her bed. I have a feeling he isn’t her mate, but I don’t have time to judge her right now. “Sophia is missing. I need you.” Her face immediately drops as she looks at the man in bed with her. “You need to go.” She quickly tells him, and he seems surprised. I turn around without saying another word; I do not need to watch her get dressed. I would be surprised by this, but honestly, I’m so scared about Sophia that I can’t even comprehend what I just saw. I don’t even want to think about it until I have Sophia back in my arms. By the time I get into the living room with the others, Damari’s there, and he’s on the phone. His hair is messy, and he’s been running his fingers through it multiple times. Either that or I interrupted a very fun date for him. I can’t find it within me to care when all I care about is getting Sophia back. “Thanks, see you soon.” He hangs up as his eyes finally reach mine. He walks over and wraps his arms around me. Usually, I’m not the biggest hugger, but I lean into his embrace as I feel tears push to the surface. My emotions are all over the place. I’ve never lost control like this before. “We’re going to find her. Your mom’s on her way.” “Marina’s coming?” Rina says as she gets down the stairs, thankfully fully clothed. The man she was with was nowhere to be found, and I make a note to talk to her about that later. Once I have my own mate safe with me. “Tell me what happened?” Damari says, and I sigh as I look around the room. I tell him a shortened version, leaving out the part where Sophia and I went to our bedroom to hook up and pick it up the last time I saw her, losing her to the party. I can still see her black hair swaying with the way she bound into the pack and started dancing. I shouldn’t have ever let her out of my sight. She told me she felt like she was being watched. I just didn’t think anyone would have the guts to steal her from our home. Why did I think it was okay to just let her go off to the dancefloor? I should have been there. “And you checked every single room? She’s not just sleeping somewhere? You guys sound like you were drinking a lot.” I can tell Damari’s being sincere and not judging us for drinking. He just wants to help me find her. “She told me it’s M. Before our link was painfully disconnected, he took her. She’s not here in our home. She’s not here on campus. I bet she’s not even in this country. She’s completely gone; he took her somewhere, and I don’t know where.” As I say it, the words cut through me, and I can’t believe he’s the one who took her. I’ll kill him and anyone who helped him. I won’t stop until I find him, and his death won’t be fast. There’s a tense silence in the room as I look back up at him, seeing him shake slightly as his fingers tap away on the phone. “When will mom get here?” I let the tear drop from my eye before quickly wiping it away. Only losing my girl can make me feel this way, but I don’t care if anyone sees me this way. I won’t be right until I find her. “As soon as she can.” “Someone should call Sohpia’s parents. I can’t do it.” Damari nods at me as he wraps his arm around me again, and I sigh in his presence, finding it comforting. “I’ll take care of it.”
