I glanced at Knight who was staring at me curiously, then back to Magda, hoping an answer to her question might magically appear. “I suppose you could say, in a way, it was both.” She nodded with a smile. “Life is rarely black and white,” she sympathized. “Oh, silly me. I forgot our drinks.” She hurried over to a closed cabinet and pulled out a lidded jug. “This is some of my specialty wine I save for guests—you must have some.” She displayed the jug aloft with great pride before pouring us each a glass. I didn’t think wine was a good idea after our night in the cave, but I wasn’t about to offend our host. I sipped a small amount of her brew, pleasantly surprised at the refreshing burst of flavor. Knight wasn’t burdened by the same sense of restraint as me. He downed his cup as we finished
