Chapter 3

Aubrey I avoided Haden for weeks. What he said had really hurt me. How could he think of me in such a way? I never wanted his money and I still don't want it. I spoke to his mother earlier and informed her that I wasn't feeling well. It was partially true. My head was hurting and I had a slight fever. But I did it for Haden. He really expressed how much he didn't want to go to Tahiti with me and I wasn't about to force him into something he didn't want to do. I was bored out of my brains. I didn't really have any friends and my parents were out of the country. I was all alone in this house. I decided to prepare dinner and watch 'The Little Mermaid' it was one of my favorite Disney movies. I absolutely loved it. About 2 hours later I ate dinner and continued watching other movies. I also waited up for Haden to tell him the news about the honeymoon. I'm sure he'd be happy to hear that. He arrived home earlier than I expected but he wasn't alone. A beautiful blonde was perched on his side. She had gorgeous blue eyes and pink plump lips. She wore a jeans and a white t-shirt but still managed to look amazing. Instantly I knew who she was, Ivory. She is so beautiful. No wonder why Haden loves her. I greeted them at the door. "Hi, I'm Aubrey." I said ignoring Haden's glare. "Hello, I'm Ivory." She replied politely. She seems nice. ''You're Haden's wife aren't you?" She questioned with a polite smile and Haden clenched his fists. "Yes I am. And its nice to meet you." I managed to say. I'm trying my best to hold it all together. "Its nice to meet you too." Haden was silent. He hadn't spoken since he came in. We were all seated in the living room. I had a whole lot of questions for him. For beginners what was she doing here? "Can I get you both anything to drink?" I questioned. It felt as though they were the married couple. "A glass of water would be fine." She responded. "A beer." Haden muttered. I ran to the kitchen and got their drinks. What the hell is going on? How could Haden bring another woman to our home? Does he not care about my feelings? Does he not respect our marriage? When I returned, I saw Haden smiling brightly at Ivory as she whispered something to him. I would never be able to get that image out of my head. They looked so perfect together. I couldn't help the trail of jealousy that found its way to my mind. I cleared my throat and they both looked at me. "Here are your drinks." I announced as I placed the tray in front of them. ''Thank you." Ivory smiled but Haden said nothing. ''There's something we have to discuss Aubrey." Haden started and I nodded. This couldn't be good. "Ivory is pregnant with my child. I would like to end this marriage so I can be with her and my baby." He stated plainly and I couldn't hide my surprise. I was absolutely speechless. "Say something." Haden growled and Ivory put her hand on his lap to calm him down. My head started to hurt really bad. My vision became cloudy and my eyes began to hurt. "Are you okay?" Ivory questioned. I tried to speak but I couldn't. My head began spinning and I felt myself falling. The last thing I saw was Haden and Ivory standing over me as I faded into the darkness. ~ My eyes fluttered open to reveal a man standing over me as I lay on the couch. A stethoscope was around his neck which indicated he was a doctor. "What happened?" I groaned. "Hi Aubrey, I'm Doctor Johnson. Aubrey can you give me a quick review of your medical background? Do you have any complications?" "I'm anemic. It has been that way since I was a little girl. I guess I forgot to take my tablets." I added shyly. "That's not something you should forget Aubrey. It's important, you can't put your health at risk."  "I know." Haden stepped into the room with a glass of water which he passed to me. I was surprised at his gesture but I still took the water and drank it. "So doc, will she be okay?" Haden asked. Why is he acting like he cares? Does he actually care? "Yes she will as long as she takes her pills. She's anemic, iron deficiency. She has to eat a lot of food with iron in it or she will get really sick. Please ensure that your wife takes her pills." Doctor Johnson said as he rummaged through his bag. "I will doctor." Haden answered. After taking my blood pressure and making sure I was okay, the doctor left. Haden and I were alone in the room. "Aubrey," He started.'' Please set me free from this marriage." Haden spoke softly for the first time to me. I was surprised at his tone. He was never this gentle. "Its a contract Haden. There's no way out of it. It says we have to spend at least 3 years together. We can't get divorced. I'm sorry." I whispered softly. "f**k! I never read the contract. Why did I sign that s**t?" He growled in frustration. "Wait a second, that means you read it Aubrey. Why didn't you say something? You just signed those documents. Now I have to waste 3 years of my life with you." Haden yelled. "I'm sorry okay! I had no idea you hated me that much. I didn't know I disgusted you. I'm sorry." I cried. He remained silent for a while then left the room. I stood on wobbly legs and made my way upstairs. I wiped the tears from my eyes and went to my room. He loves her. And I will never have a chance. Haden Aubrey's words stung in my brain and I couldn't get her broken voice out of my head. I do not like her but do I really hate her? I don't think I've ever hated a person before. I mean sure I wanna get out of this marriage and leave her penniless but still, I don't think I could hate her or anybody for that matter. "What are you thinking about?" Ivory's soft voice interrupted my train of thought. My arms were wrapped around her as we laid in bed. How would Aubrey feel about this? I'm sure she'd be angry or hurt-wait I don't care how she feels. I can do whatever I please. "Nothing. I'm not thinking about anything.'' "Maybe we shouldn't be together right now. You're married and your wife is right next door." Ivory frowned. "This just doesn't sit right with me." "What? Aubrey knows that this marriage is just a contract and it doesn't matter what either of us do. I love you and our baby Ivory. My future is with you not her." I explained. "Well I guess you're right." She muttered as I captured her lips in a warm kiss. She responded immediately and I couldn't help myself. I kissed her with such love. Sometime after we both fell asleep. I promise you Ivory, I will marry you. ~ I woke up the next morning with Ivory still wrapped up in my arms. This is perfect. I climbed out of bed ensuring not to wake her and brushed my teeth. I made my way downstairs to grab something to eat. Two plates were already on the counter with bacon, eggs, pancakes and a glass of orange juice. My mouth watered at the sight of the meal. Aubrey was on the opposite side of the counter eating her own breakfast. "Is this for Ivory and I?" I questioned and she nodded. "Thank you." "You're welcome." A couple minutes later Ivory came downstairs. "This tastes amazing." Ivory swooned. "You can cook really well. Where did you learn to make food like this." She complimented, causing Aubrey to blush. '"Thank you, Iearnt from my mom. Plus I had to cook for my niece and nephew when my sister wasn't around." Aubrey smiled genuinely. I can tell she liked talking about her niece and nephew. Her smile is actually beautiful. It makes her glow. What am I thinking? I don't like her. "Awww, how old are they?" Ivory cooed. "My niece is 4 and my nephew is 6. Their names are Sophia and Antonio." Aubrey smiled as she showed Ivory a picture of them on her phone. "They are absolutely adorable."  "And quite mischievous." Aubrey chuckled and Ivory laughed. Ivory has such a kind personality. She has every right to be angry at Aubrey but here she is smiling and chatting with her. "I'm totally in the mood for a mini vacation." Ivory stated. "Where do you want to go?" I questioned. "How about Hawaii or one of those islands. What do you think Aubrey?" She smiled. "Oh, I think you both should go. I mean I'm not feeling so well and I'll probably feel worse if I travel." Aubrey said. She's lying! "Aww c'mon Aubrey." Ivory urged. "Its fine Ivory. You guys have fun." Aubrey replied. "Alright if you say so." "Ivory you should start packing. We will leave tomorrow." I said. "I'll go pack now." Ivory screamed in excitement as she walked upstairs. Aubrey and I were left alone in an awkward silence. "Umm Haden, I have the two tickets to Tahiti. I got it from your mom. I think you should take it. It wouldn't make sense buying another pair of tickets." She smiled as her voice broke. "Yeah thanks." "You're welcome. I hope you both have a good time. I'm gonna do the laundry." She said awkwardly as she left the kitchen. I stared at the two tickets in my hand. I should be happy that I'm taking Ivory with me. So why does it feel like Aubrey should be going instead. Why does it feel as if I've cheated her out of something she really wanted.
