CHAPTER 3: Almost caught

ISABELLA “The guest room. Left closet. Hurry!” Killian gave orders like I knew every nook and cranny of his home. I gripped the railing tight, clumsily glancing around to guess which way the guest room was. Heavy footsteps pounded in my ears. Daniels was coming, oh god! Killian hurried toward the door, locked it real quick, and pointed at the stairs. “Upstairs, down the hallway,” he whispered, then cursed under his breath. “Hurry.” I scrambled up the stairs, each step like I was stepping on large needles. A loud knock boomed, followed by a familiar smooth voice. “Kill, open up. I need to return your hoodie!” I slammed the guest room door hard. The closet. The closet. Clutching the blanket around my frail body, I took a large step forward—but I tripped and fell on my face with a soft thud. I winced in pain, ignored my twisted ankle, then crawled toward the closet. I heard Killian unlocking the door, then my brother's voice followed. “Your hoodie, you left it at my place the other night.” Killian responded with a curt “thanks” “Have you seen Izzy? She wasn't in her dorm room last night.” My breath caught in my throat. I pressed my knees against my chest and held my breath. “No, I haven't seen her either.” Killian denied smoothly. “But I can smell her on you…” Daniels' voice dripped with curiosity, and right now, I could tell the look on his face. If Killian didn't come up with something, Daniels would figure out the truth. “If you mean the scent of another woman, then you're right. I guess she uses the same perfume as your sister.” Killian countered smoothly. A sense of relief washed over me. Daniels chuckled at Killian's statement. “Screwing ladies as usual, huh? I see that. I'll be heading out, then. I need to find her.” “Call me if you need anything.” The door slammed shut. Minutes later, Killian yelled my name, asking me to come out, and I did. He urged me to eat breakfast. I refused. Rushing to his room, I grabbed my dress and slipped out through the back door to avoid being seen by my brother. Ignoring the burn in my throat, I flagged down a taxi and got in. ~~ Sarah, my bunkmate, enveloped me in a tight hug as soon as she saw me walk through the door. “I shouldn't have sent you that video,” she whispered while I sobbed on her shirt, soaking it completely. “I really shouldn't have. I'm so sorry.” “He called me a mere one night stand.” I choked out. Sarah pulled away from our embrace, her thin brows raised. “A mere what? Who?” “Killian.” I sniffed, “he looked me in the eyes and called me a mere one night stand.” I grabbed Sarah's shoulder, blinking back my tears. “I'm so stupid, Sarah. I allowed him, of all people, to f**k me.” “Who?” “Killian Blackthorn, my brother's best friend.” Sarah's brown eyes widened. She slammed her palm on her lips. “The same Killian Blackthorn? The Alpha's son?” I wiped my tears shakily. “I…I didn't know what got into me. It's just…too much happened yesterday. Jace cheated, rejected me—” “He rejected you, too?” I nodded, my eyes brimming with fresh tears. “Jace mocked me with his friends because of my status, Sarah. Because I'm an Omega. He rejected me because he's ashamed of me.” “Izzy,” Sarah wrapped an arm around my waist, then pressed my head on her shoulder. “Jace, that piece of s**t, is a greedy bastard. He doesn't deserve someone like you, Izzy. He doesn't—” “Maybe he's right.” My voice trembled. “Maybe he's right about my family status. I mean, the whole pack knows the reason why Dad and mom were banished. They know Daniels and I are a product of incest. Why did I think someone like Jace would want to be with me?” Sarah sighed. “Izzy, that happened years ago.” “But the damage is still there, Sarah. Everyone's avoiding me because they think I'm cursed. Killian was quick to deny everything that happened last night, too.” “You should be glad he's not dwelling on it.” Sarah guided me to my bed, a faint smile on her freckled face. “I heard he could be quite…possessive with his things.” I smiled sadly. “The lady in the video, the one you sent me yesterday, do you know who she is?” Sarah avoided my gaze. “I don't..” I grabbed her wrist, desperation clawing at me. I wanted to know who Jace rejected me for. “Tell me who she is, Sarah.” “Izzy, trust me, you don't want to know who she is.” “I'm not that weak.” I whispered softly. “It's Serena.” She sighed. My body turned cold. “No! It can't be.” “I'm sorry, Izzy.” Another tear slipped down my cheeks. The pain of betrayal cut so deep, I could barely breathe. Serena is my best friend. My childhood friend. Why would she do this to me? I grabbed my phone and dialed her number. Sarah tried to stop me, but I pushed her hard. Serena picked on the second ring. “Hey, bestie!” “Why…why did you do that to me, Serena? How long have you been f*****g Jace?” She scoffed. “Took you so long to realize. We've been screwing each other since the night you became mates.”
