CHAPTER 5: Chaos

ISABELLA “You. Told. Him. Nothing?!” Sarah screamed at me, eyes bulging as some chips flew out her mouth. She slumped on the cafeteria seat, shaking her eyes like she couldn't believe I'd be that generous. “You're unbelievable.” She muttered, stuffing more potato chips into her mouth. “You had an opportunity to get back at Jace. The Almighty Killan made it possible for you, and yet, you allowed him to leave without scaring his p***s?” Lowering my head, I stabbed my apple pie with my fork. “Jace isn't worth my attention.” “But he deserves to pay for what he did to you.” Sarah pointed out. She sat upright, leaned her head on her palm, then lowered her voice. “Well, what are you going to do now?” “Nothing,” I whispered slowly. “I confronted him earlier because it was hard to stomach the fact that he had been screwing Serena since the night we became mates.” I swallowed the painful lump in my throat, tightening my grip on my fork. “I wanted some sort of explanation, Sarah,” I choked out. I tried to fight the burn in my eyes, but the tear slipped anyway. “But Jace…he didn't care about the fact that—” Splash. The feeling of a cold flavoured liquid on my face made my lips snap shut. “b***h!” A sharp, familiar voice followed, “did you f**k your brother's best friend to get him to act like a beast?” Serena. I tilted my head to the right to stare at her. Her cheeks were flushed. Eyes bulging. Fingers pointed at me like a damn criminal. “Don't f*****g give me that innocent look, Izzy. You f****d him, right? That's why he did that to Jace? How pathetic.” Anger burned through my veins. “Don't you think you're the pathetic one here?” Sarah spat, tossing some chips at her. “You f****d your bestfriend's mate!” “And so f*****g what?” Serena snapped back. “Do you think someone like Jace would settle for a mere omega?” Her words made my knees weak. The whole cafeteria was silent. People were staring. Watching. Waiting. Serena's words hung in the air like a toxic poison, spreading to every damn nerve of my system. A tear threatened to slip down my cheeks. When did she become like this? Why did she do this to me? I loved her. With all of me. With everything I had. But she stabbed me in the back. Serena humiliated me, the only person that stood by her when she lost her mother! Wiping the liquid off my face, I kicked the chair and jumped to my feet. “What did you just say, Serena?” Her nostrils flared. “I called you a f*****g omega. A slut. I'm literally not surprised by your bitchy attitude. Your parents must have passed that down to—oww!” Serena yelled when I slapped her right cheek. She took a step backwards, parted her lips to speak again—but I delivered another slap to her left cheek. “How dare you bring my parents into this matter?!” I growled, advancing toward her. “And how dare you slap me?!” She snapped back, clutching her cheeks with pain in her orbs, “You realize I'm Jace's chosen mate, right? Disrespecting me means disrespecting the soon to be Beta of a prestigious pack!” My lips tilted into a small smile. “Do you think I care about his sickening title?” I took a step closer, “what if he loses that title, huh? Would you still spread your legs wide for him?” “You—” She charged toward me with her palm raised—but before she could hit me, a sharp voice rang out. “Serena, Isabella, to the Dean's office. Now!” Oh no. It was too late to plead innocent right now. Daniels would be so disappointed if I got suspended for a fight. It was degrading, too. A literal stain to my perfect records. I flashed a small smile at the young lecturer. “Ma'am, Serena and I were just having a friendly conversation.” “A friendly conversation?” Her voice rose. She grabbed Serena's palm, then pointed at the finger marks on her cheeks. “Didn't you do this?” “I—” Serena was quick to switch everything. “Yes! She started it, she started everything!” “That's not true!” I gritted out, but Serena only smirked at me. “I think we should let the Dean decide on that.” In a few minutes, Serena and I were seated before the Dean, Bernard Cooper. He slowly removed his spectacles, his sharp eyes lingering on Serena's cheeks. “Miss Isabella, now would be the right time to explain why you did that.” “She—” “She smacked me because she's jealous, Mr. Cooper.” Serena hissed, “she's jealous I have everything she's ever wanted.” “Mr. Cooper—” I tried to explain, but he cut me off. “I think I've heard enough.” “You didn't even let me explain!” “Don't raise your voice at me, woman!” He slammed his palm on his desk, making me flinch. “You broke the rules by engaging in a violent act. Miss Serena’s father is an important figure in the society and this school. What do you think he'd do when he figures out a particular woman slaps his daughter over lunch?” Serena smirked. My eyes burned. So it was all about her family status. Fighting the burn in my throat, I sat upright. “Serena's father might be an important figure, but that doesn't deny the fact that she insulted my parents. She came to me first. She's the reason wh—” “I said I've heard enough.” Mr. Cooper glared at me. “You've been suspended for a week now. Leave before it gets extended.” He then turned to stare at Serena. “You can leave, Miss Serena. Make sure you get that treated.” My throat tightened. Serena pushed her chair backwards and smiled. “Thank you, Mr. Cooper. Thank you for your help. I'll be sure to tell my father about your generous act.” He laughed heartily. Feeling the urge to drop to my knees and cry, I rushed for the door—but Serena's voice made me halt. “Mr. Cooper, I feel a bit lightheaded. I think Izzy should guide me to the clinic.”
