ISABELLA
Throughout the whole day, I stayed by Serena's side while she kept acting like the bruise was caused by a beast. She made the nurse stare at me like a murderer even when the bruise could heal by itself.
Serena had Alpha blood.
Her wounds heal faster.
Yet she was treated like a damsel in distress.
The mere memory made my stomach twist with disgust. It was hard to keep my wolf, Lena, at bay. I felt her anger and hatred for Serena. She couldn't wait to shred Serena into pieces.
Immediately I arrived home, the sweet aroma of meatballs and pasta made my stomach grumble. Tossing my tote bag on the couch, I slid into the kitchen—but my knees nearly gave out at the sight of Killian’s back.
He was shirtless.
His long legs hidden in some grey pants that hung loosely around his firm waist. I swallowed hard his firm muscles, how he flexed his arm with his entire focus on the meal. Killian was preparing dinner, and yet, he looked too perfect to be called human.
“A week suspension, huh?” His deep voice rang out and I stiffened.
How did he….
“Daniels told me.”
“It's none of your business.” I snapped, inwardly screaming at my mind for shamelessly gawking at his body earlier.
“You know,” Killian paused in his actions. He tilted his head to the right to stare at me. “A ‘thank you’ would have been better. I saved your ass back there with Jace.”
“I didn't ask for your help.”
“Then why did you stare at me like a savior the moment I stepped in?”
My breath hitched. “I…it was because—” trying to prove this was pointless, so I switched the entire conversation. “Where's my brother?”
“Out shopping for some groceries.”
“Does he know you're here?”
“Why?” He smirked, “want to shove me out?”
I took a step backwards as Killian carried a filled plate toward the dining area. He started to set it up, going into the kitchen from time to time and ignoring me like I wasn't even there. I bit my lips hard, then headed for the stairs, but his voice made me pause.
“You should eat dinner, Izzy. Daniels told me you didn't eat breakfast,” Killian smiled at me, and God, I badly felt like ripping it off his face.
Why was he being nice to me?
Killian, my brother's best friend before our one night stand, barely talked to me. He always stared at me like I didn't matter, like I wasn't worth a second of his time, and since he was the Alpha's son, I kind of understood him.
He had a solid bond with my brother.
Even when the elders and people avoided us like plagues due to our parents, Killian didn't care.
He loved my brother, and I could tell that was the only reason he respected me—but right now, a few days after he called that night a mistake, I couldn't handle the fact that it was so easy for him to move on. To forget when the scene replayed in my head each night.
Now, with the smile on his lips, I felt like kissing him. A sick thought.
“Izzy?” Killian’s voice jolted me back to reality. “Izzy, is everything—”
“Why don't we just go back to the way things were in the past?” I asked, clutching the railing so hard my knuckles turned white. “When you didn't care if I breathed or not. When you didn't care about breakfast, lunch, or dinner. When you didn't interfere in conversations with my ex across the hallway.”
“Izzy,” he lowered his voice, “Izzy, I'm only looking out for you.”
“I don't want you to look out for me! You called that night a mistake!” Tears pricked the corner of my eyes, “You called me a mere one night stand, so it's only fair if you treat me like I don't ex—”
“I'm home!”
The doors burst open as Daniels strolled in with some large bags. I wiped my tears quickly, plastering a smile on my lips as I rushed down the stairs to hug him.
Daniels wrapped his arms around my waist, making me feel so warm, I wanted to cry on his shoulder all night. “You seem energetic,” he chuckled lightly, and I joined him, my smile wide. “I had a well…tough day..”
“Like getting suspended for a week, huh.”
“No, Daniels. It really wasn't my fault.”
“The Dean didn't put it that way, Izzy. I warned you to stay out of trouble.”
“And I tried! Serena came at me. She splashed some soda on me, and called me a b***h just because Killian punched Jace in the hallway.”
Killian cleared his throat. “I only taught him a lesson.”
“Well, if you didn't, I wouldn't have been suspended.”
Killian's jaw tightened. “So you're blaming me?”
“Yes, because it's all your fault!” I then turned to face Daniels, staring into his eyes, “so if you're going to scold anyone, it should be both of us.”
Daniels’ eyes darted between Killian and I, flickering with an emotion I couldn't read. He locked his jaw, eyes pinned on me. “When did you and Killian become this….familiar?”
