SARAH When the taxi stopped outside Daniels’ house, I knew I was in trouble. Not the kind of trouble you run from. The kind of trouble that you stand in the middle and watch it swallow you whole. Izzy’s head rested on my shoulder, and her arms loose around my neck. She was heavy, and my legs could barely hold her. She smelled of chlorine and cheap vodka. “Come on, Izzy,” I mumbled, trying to drag her out of the back seat. “Work with me here.” She groaned something that sounded like my name, then went quiet again. I finally pulled her out and I staggered back, My heels caught on the driveway stones, and I almost fell with her. “I can’t—” I started to yell, “Daniels!” The front door swung open so fast it hit the wall.
