Chapter 6: Antique (Part 2)

Merlin silently tried to recall the chubby Gut, whom he vaguely remembered from Merlin’s memories. Eventually, some information about Gut surfaced in his mind. Gut’s full name was Dogran Gut. The Dogran family didn’t have much heritage; their fortune only began in the generation of Old Dogran. Although lacking noble blood and deep roots, Old Dogran was formidable. From humble beginnings as a commoner, he became one of the wealthy figures in Blackwater City within just a few decades. In fact, nearly ninety percent of all the jewelry trade in Blackwater City was controlled by the Dogran family. As a result, young Gut was lavish in his spending and quickly became close with Merlin, Anson, and the others. Gut was extremely fat. Sitting in the front row, he occupied two seats by himself. His eyes were tiny, and when he squinted, they almost became a straight line. Seeing Merlin and Anson, Gut looked pleased and hurriedly said, “Come quick! I’ve already saved great seats for you. This is the front row!” Merlin and Anson sat down calmly and soon started chatting excitedly about the new history teacher. Merlin shook his head slightly as he listened to Anson and Gut, who couldn’t go three sentences without talking about women. No wonder Mei Xue warned Merlin not to mess around—staying clean while hanging out with these two required strong self-control. However, Merlin still gained something; from their casual conversation, he gradually figured out the situation. This was a noble etiquette class run by a noble in Blackwater City, specifically to teach various aristocratic manners. Subjects like music, history, philosophy, painting, and all sorts of complex etiquette were taught here. Not only did noble offspring attend these classes, but even wealthy children like Gut came here to learn aristocratic manners to help with future noble interactions. Soon, the room became lively as people entered one after another. What was once an empty room was now nearly full. Merlin estimated that there were about forty people. A pale, thin man entered through the front door and deliberately walked past Merlin, giving a soft snort and a disdainful look before sitting in the back row. Merlin had no impression of the man, but it was clear they were not on friendly terms. “That’s Tilafa again, that arrogant guy. Merlin, ignore him. You and Avril are already engaged. Even if he’s bitter, it’s useless.” Anson said in a low voice. Merlin nodded, memorizing the information, though he still didn’t know Tilafa’s real identity. Fortunately, with Anson’s big mouth, Merlin coaxed it out of him after a few questions. Tilafa was the eldest son of the Wengulite family. Like Merlin, he was the sole heir of a baron. In fact, the feud between Merlin and Tilafa was not personal—it was a family feud, and quite a dramatic one. Baron Wengulite once fell for a woman—coincidentally, so did Old Wilson. They even secretly dueled over her. In the end, Old Wilson’s skills prevailed, and he won the woman. She became Old Wilson’s eighth wife and the mother of Mei Xue. Merlin was rather shocked—he hadn’t expected that busty lady had once been attractive enough to cause a duel between two nobles. But the feud between the Wengulite and Wilson families didn’t end there—it extended to Merlin and Tilafa. Tilafa liked Avril, and the Wengulite family had once proposed marriage to the Barman family. But Baron Barman eventually betrothed Avril to Merlin. From then on, there was no mending the rift. “Merlin, Tilafa hates you to the core. He looks for any excuse to cause trouble. You must be careful. Don’t get close to him, and definitely don’t clash. That guy may be arrogant, but he’s got skills. He has earth elemental affinity. He may become a Swordmaster of Earth one day. Even if the three of us fought him together, we wouldn’t stand a chance.” Anson warned solemnly, clearly wary of Tilafa. “Another Elemental Swordsman, huh?” Merlin nodded. He had already witnessed the power of those with elemental affinity, so he naturally wouldn’t be foolish enough to provoke Tilafa. Before long, the sound of leather boots echoed from outside, and a woman stepped into the room. In an instant, the room fell completely silent. The woman had long legs wrapped in nude-colored stockings. Though she wore a furry coat, it couldn’t conceal the prominent curve of her chest. Her curvy figure exuded a mature and sultry charm. Despite her seductive appearance and voluptuous body, her every movement revealed a graceful poise. It was as though seduction and elegance, two opposite traits, were flawlessly fused in her. “Perfect!” Anson and Gutt stared fixedly at the newcomer, clearly stunned. The woman didn’t seem to care about the gazes in the room. She gave a light smile and said, “I’m your new history teacher. You may call me Gia.” “Perfect, absolutely perfect! I actually ran into a woman this perfect! No way—Merlin, Gutt, you two must promise: don’t compete with me for Gia! She’s mine!” “Tch, Anson, have you even noticed how many people are eyeing her?” “But if you’re really serious about getting her, it’s not entirely impossible.” “Everyone knows why someone would come here to teach—it’s all about seducing the noble heirs, hoping to climb the social ladder in one leap.” “I’ll help you look into Gia’s background. It’ll make it easier for you to make a move.” Merlin didn’t express an opinion on Gutt’s words. In his memory, he had no recollection of this place, so naturally he knew nothing about the situation here. However, he did remember Gutt and Anson saying earlier that more than ninety percent of the female teachers who came here were trying to hook up with noble heirs. If they succeeded, they could ascend the social ladder overnight. The previous history teacher, in fact, had stopped coming to class because she had successfully hooked up with a baron’s son. So basically, most of the teachers here didn’t come with pure intentions. Gia, however, appeared calm and unfazed. She said calmly, “Alright, let’s begin class. Today, I will be teaching you about antiques!” As she spoke, Gia took out a small, delicate ring from her pocket. She raised it high, and the sunlight streaming through the window bathed the ring, revealing a porcelain-white glow.
