[Imani’s POV] I keep my expression neutral and try my best not to look down at my leg as my mother, takes a seat on the bed beside me. When she does, the bed shifts ever-so-slightly from her weight and it jostles my body. When it does, pain shoots through me. I bite back on the shocked gasp that wants to escape because I’m certain that something is off, but for some reason my mother was trying to keep it from me. “Here’s your tea,” the woman in question says now, passing me the cup she holds. “Drink it and then go back to bed.
