Arms akimbo, Alex swirled, twisted, and spiraled through the air. Cartwheeling through space, he reached out for something, anything to grab a hold of. But there was nothing. Just blackness in a sprinkling of stars. No swimming pool. No Sludge. Not even that roller-coaster rainbow he had ridden so many times before. Like a skater on a crazy loop the loop, he hurtled through the emptiness, spinning and rolling on an invisible board. But this steed was relentless, jerking and flipping his body in wild directions with such force he was afraid he’d be pulled apart. He tried tucking into a forward roll when everything froze. All was silence save the throbbing pulse in his ears. Now suspended between distant constellations, Alex sucked in a quick breath. His lungs filled with a stale mixture
