Dali pointed at the yellow bench skirting the oval room and Gwen helped Jose sit down. She rolled her retainer around with her tongue and took her seat opposite him. With her hands clasped tightly in her lap she tried not to move. Dali had said they needed absolute quiet. In his Spanish accent with th instead of s, he whispered, “I will begin with thoft sounds. Then I will try to access the boy’s mind.” thsGwen was surprised that although he was whispering, his voice reverberated all over the room. She shoved her retainer back in place with a swallow. Dali began to pace. “Listen to my voice. Sh-s-s-sh,” Dali made sounds like the sea. “Sh-sh-sh…” He turned and repeated the ocean sounds. When he reached the end of the room he did an about face and slowly paced in the opposite direction.
