Daryl was too close to my face for comfort. He had whispered those words close to my ear and it was not possible that I could have missed what he had said. But my heart was beating so fast that I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. My face was flushed and heated. I could not think properly and I hated the fact that I couldn't. So I rested my hands against his chest and lightly pushed him away. He didn't budge at first so I gave him a firmer push until he released my neck and moved away to give me some space to breathe.
