Julian appeared at my apartment that evening.
The sight of the empty room and my packed suitcase shattered his composure.
"Alyssa, what are you doing? Where are you going?"
"Moving." I didn't look up from folding my clothes. My calm surprised even me.
He rushed over and seized my shoulders. Fear finally showed in his eyes, not because he might lose me, but because of what my departure could cost him.
"Is this about the internet? I told you PR will handle it. What will people think if you move out? They'll say we broke up. My image as an independent director can't have a single flaw, and nothing can go wrong with my family evaluation."
"How could anyone say we broke up?" I looked at him as if he were a stranger. "Julian, have you ever admitted to anyone that I was your girlfriend?"
