A Mother's Silent Struggles
Isa sat on the hospital bed, running her fingers through Aiden’s hair as he slept peacefully. The rhythmic beeping of the heart monitor echoed in the quiet room. Every beat was a reminder—a painful one—that time was slipping away.
She traced the curve of his tiny fingers, memorizing every detail of his little hand in hers.
"You're my strong boy," she whispered, her voice full of love and fear. "And I’ll do anything to protect you."
A soft knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. Dr. Dev Malhotra stepped inside, his face carrying the weight of difficult news.
"Isa, we need to talk."
She knew that tone. She had been dreading this conversation.
"Is it worse?" Her voice trembled slightly.
Dev sighed, his usual confident posture faltering. "Aiden’s heart is weaker than we hoped. He needs surgery soon, Isa. The longer we wait, the riskier it gets."
Her chest tightened. Surgery. A word that terrified her.
"How soon?"
"Within a few months at most. But honestly? The sooner, the better."
Isa clenched her fists, her mind racing.
"I don’t care what it takes. I’ll work day and night. Just… just tell me what we need to do."
Dev’s expression softened. "You don’t have to do this alone, Isa."
She forced a smile, but they both knew the truth—she already was.
Aiden’s Moments of Joy
Despite the weight of reality, Isa refused to let Aiden feel her fears. She wanted his childhood to be filled with happiness, not hospital beds and pain.
So, she took him to the beach.
Aiden ran through the sand, his laughter ringing through the salty air. Isa watched as he tried to build a sandcastle, his tiny hands scooping up handfuls of sand.
"Mommy! Look! It's a castle for you!" he beamed.
Isa knelt beside him, smiling. "It’s beautiful, sweetheart. Just like you."
Aiden pouted. "Mommy, boys aren’t beautiful. We’re strong!"
Isa chuckled, ruffling his hair. "Okay, okay. My strong little prince."
Dr. Dev arrived a little later, carrying ice cream.
"Who’s ready for some sugar overload?" Dev grinned, handing Aiden a cone.
Aiden took the ice cream but narrowed his eyes playfully. "Uncle Dev… why are you always around my mommy?"
Dev raised a brow. "Because we’re friends."
Aiden huffed, crossing his arms. "Hmm. I need to keep an eye on you."
Isa burst into laughter, shaking her head.
"Oh no, Dev. Looks like you’ve got a tiny bodyguard now."
Aiden nodded proudly. "Yes! Mommy is mine! I’ll protect her!"
Despite the humor, Isa’s heart ached. She wished Aiden had a father who could protect him too. Someone who could love him the way she did.
Someone like… Mav.
A Cold Empire, An Empty Heart
Miles away, Maverick Blackwood sat in his office, staring out at the towering cityscape. Six years.
Six years since he lost her.
Since he woke up, expecting to see Isa’s face… but finding only emptiness instead.
He threw his whiskey glass against the wall, watching it shatter into tiny pieces—just like his heart.
His phone rang, pulling him from his thoughts.
"Boss, there’s a situation at the docks," his right-hand man reported.
Mav stood, his voice turning to steel. "I’m on my way".
The Ruthless Mafia King
The air at the docks was thick with tension. The rival gang had been trying to steal his shipments—big mistake.
Mav arrived in a sleek black car, stepping out in his tailored suit. His brown eyes, once warm, were now cold and unreadable.
The gang leader smirked. "Blackwood. Finally showing up yourself?"
Mav rolled his shoulders, pulling out his gun and aiming it straight at the man’s head.
"You stole from me. You pay the price."
The man scoffed. "Tch. You think you’re untouchable?"
Mav’s jaw clenched. He was untouchable. Because he had nothing to lose.
He pulled the trigger.
A Fateful Connection
Back in his office, Mav went through his company’s documents, trying to drown his thoughts in work.
"Sir, there’s a charity proposal for medical funding in India. It’s for a children's hospital."
Mav barely paid attention—until his assistant added,
"The request came from a Dr. Dev Malhotra. The hospital specializes in heart surgeries for children. There’s a case that needs urgent attention."
Mav frowned.
He never cared about charity.
But something about this… pulled at him.
Against his usual nature, he picked up the file.
And for the first time in six years, he was unknowingly about to take a step closer to the woman he lost… and the son he didn’t know existed.
