I just shrugged my shoulders, as though it were none of my concern. Two of the men raced after Kornei, but the third remained behind and put the tape carefully back in the box. I was sitting there, really pissed off. I don’t like to eat in front of strangers. But he didn’t pay any attention to me and went all the way across the room to a corner where Kornei kept some kind of chest, sort of like a trunk, a huge box. He went over to it, slid a little screen up, and there was a brightly lit compartment. He put his little box into the compartment and lowered the screen.
