Chapter 2

Janessa's point of view After walking what seems like hours in the dark, I reach the exit. Only a few feet from the stone archway, I bend down to one knee. Taking in a deep breath and concentrate, I lay my free hand down on the cold concrete floor. With my abilities I am able to scan a pretty good area for any living things. Scanning around I see a few little critters roaming around the area, From the size and shape I would say they are squirrels. As I was getting ready to take my hand off, something big caught my attention in the distance. Concentrating I scan as far as my abilities will go I spot what caught my attention. Releasing a breath that I was unaware I was holding I spot the three deer. Satisfied I get up, dusting the dirt off of my dark blue jeans and proceed to the exit. Putting my hand on the stone archway, I look around taking a deep breath. Smiling to myself just a little thinking, how something so beautiful come out of such a crappy day. Looking around the lush tall green grass, scattered with many different color wild flowers. Dogwood trees, both pink and white buds were scattered across the meadow. There are just enough trees to get it confused with a forest or a field. As I am taking in the deep aroma of grass, wild flowers, and spring. finally spotting what I have been looking for, the chevy Z-71 on an over grown dirt gravel road. Thinking to myself with a slight shake of my head. I should have know it wasn't actually a car, Aliha knows her cars about as much as I know how to build a house, nada. with a small chuckle to myself I walk through the thresh hold of our kingdom, with a still sleeping 6 yr old in my arm along with the only things we now own in two little bags on my shoulder. I turn around as I walk a few feet away and as I had expected, the door we just came through was no longer there. A single goodbye tear slides down my cheek as the realization hits me, this is actually happening. I get to the truck as I drive away from the only place I ever truly called home. I pass about three pack territories and as we are both masked as humans, we ran into no problems. The tiny sleeping form beside started to stir in her sleep a little. Relief came over me to be honest, cause I was not sure if Aliha had over dosed her on accident. Then there was the dread I was also feeling, for when Lily awakens and starts asking questions. I start scanning every sign we pass on the interstate for a place where we can pull off and we can talk. Preferably a place with few to no people, so when I explain the situation to her and she starts crying, we don't have a lot of eyes on us. The last thing I need right now are judging humans looking at why I am making my daughter cry. My energy will be better spent on trying to comfort Lily as much as possible. Just passed a sign that says there's a rest stop up ahead about 5 miles. We are in the middle of the country, so I'm pretty sure there will be few to no people there. With both my hands on the wheel, trying to get my thoughts in order. Gripping the black fake leather steering wheel deep in thought, how am I going to tell this sweet little angel that the life she once is no more. She will more then likely never see her parents again, and we have to find a bunch of strangers to live with and hide out true identity. This little girl has lost so much in such a short period of time. Wiping away the tears that are forming at the brim of my eyes so I can see, I pass the sign that says Rest Stop in 1 mile. One more mile till we reach the the rest stop, I have to admit, with all the bad luck and crap we have been through, It is quiet beautiful here. We are going through many mountains, beautiful green mountains. The sky was starting to turn a little gray, do to it being almost dusk. The next right, that is when I have to break this poor girls heart. Letting out a big yawn, while her little hands are balled into fist, rubbing her eyes. Then reaching to the ceiling of the truck, and legs almost kicking the glove box from a huge stretch, Lily is now awake. She starts looking around, then it happens, her eyes land on me. The look of confusing and something I can't describe crossed her face. her head fell down to look at her tiny little fingers fiddling around on her lap. As I glance over at her I see a few tears fall to her lap, making little dark blue dots on her light blue pants. She tries to wipe them away before I saw them but it was already to late. My heart was shattered and I knew then and there I was going to do everything in my power to give this girl a happy life, as much as I can anyways. Pulling over into the rest stop, looking around I thank the gods that there is only one car here. I pull into the parking lot closest to the picnic table. Turning the key off I put my hand on Lily's little knee to get her attention. She looks up at me and I can see the hurt in her eyes but I also see her trying to hide it as well. This little girl is stronger then I gave her credit for. As she looks at me I put on my best smile and ask her "how about we get out, stretch our legs. and get something to eat." She bobbed her head a little and said a faint little "ok." As we are getting to the table with the bag in hand, I tell Lily "I will explain as much as I can while we are eating, is that ok?" I'm holding her hand, and she squeezes my hand a little and says "OK." I know she isn't saying much and I cant blame her. I sit her down across from me and get out the bread, peanut butter, and banana. I know this was one of Maliha's, well now Lily's favorite snacks, so I was hoping this will cheer her up a bit. We start eating when I look at lily. "How much do you know?" As simple as that, that was the only thing I can think of to start this long conversation. "Mommy talked to me before I drank the elixir, she told me everything. Mommy said I need to be strong so one day when I get older and stronger I can take back our kingdom, and my rightful place as queen of the fae. Mommy also said that me and you were going on a long adventure, that when I come into my powers that you will train me so I can become stronger and wiser. I will be strong for mommy, daddy, my kingdom, and for you auntie Jane, I promise to take everything you teach me and become stronger." As she said all of this I was god smacked, I probably looked like a fish out of water, my mouth opening and closing unsure what to say. I mean I was expecting to have to let her down easy, and explain everything. I guess I should have know that Aliha would not let her daughter leave without an explanation and a proper goodbye. I finally get my bearings, I close my eyes and take a deep breath, exhale and open my eyes again. I do have to say I am going to have to get use to looking at lily like this. She does not have her naturally beautiful midnight black hair, blue silver eyes, and red lips. I now see before me a paler version, with light brown hair, hazel eyes and pink lips. She is still beauty but not the goddess beauty she was and will be when she no longer has to hide. I put my hand on her tiny one and look her straight in the eyes. "I will do everything in my power to help you become the woman you are ment to be, and will be I am sure of. I will also try to make you as happy as I can. I am so proud of you for being so strong. I want you to know around me you don't have to hold it in, I want you to let it out if you need to, I don't want you to bottle it all up cause that can hurt you in the long run. I will try and get us in a good pack where we can be safe and hide so you can train and get strong. Just remember, even though you need to train and learn, it is also important to have fun and laughter in your life."I say that last part with a genuine smile on my face. "I will learn and make mommy proud, I might be young but I have been training to be a leader since I was able to talk and read. I know its only been a couple years, but auntie I am the daughter of the king and queen of the Fae, I an strong, smart, and we can do this."
