Chapter 2

Seeing the guy who murdered her parents brought back painful memories, and her need for vengeance surfaced in a shrill, "You killed my family; you deserve to die" scream. Her anger at him grew as she observed his cool composure in the face of her shouting and screaming. After all, he was the one who had murdered her parents; now he had even managed to win her hand in marriage.She kicked and screamed, "You murdered them; you killed my family; you deserve to die," as she demanded her freedom and planned to kill him there to avenge her loved ones' deaths.She fought against Mark, saying, "Let me go," but he had a firmer hold on her. He had to keep the Alpha safe at all costs.Alpha Derek issued the order, "Get her out of my sight."After murdering Chloe's family, he still had the nerve to play it tough, showing no remorse. She knew he would recognize her as the girl he had knocked out against a tree, but he showed no sign of regret.Do you hear me, you scumbag? I'm going to murder you.

Her final words resonated down the hall before Beta Mark dragged her away to a small apartment far from the palace and slammed the door behind them.Chloe yelled, "Open the door!" and pounced on it with the little power she had, knowing she couldn't break it down.It shouldn't have turned out this way, with her being betrothed to the guy responsible for the brutal murder of her family.She remembered his face with revulsion and wrath, and she collapsed to the floor, clutching her hair in her hand. She heard her parents' counsel, her mother's scolding, and her small brother's laughter. It was still fresh in her mind; if she had realized that her uncle Peter was talking about him, she never would have accepted the offer, no matter how many people would have to die to prevent it.

Chloe's heart was heavy and saddened just thinking about her family; she couldn't understand how he could do that to her, how he could give her off to him. Being the Luna of the guy who had given her pain, who had made her feel alone in the world, and who had taken away her own family was a disgrace. She was banned from having any contact with him other than to inflict upon him the same suffering he had inflicted upon her.Those words, "I will make sure to kill you if that is the last thing I have to do," she vowed to herself, letting them sink in.Once more, she considered her options and wondered if she hadn't been sent there to exact retribution on the guy who had murdered her family.She was finally seeing a way to get even with him for everything he'd done to her. By taking revenge, she would be able to offer her loved ones the peace of mind they deserved.'I will make sure I kill you before I leave this pack,' she mumbled.

Alpha Derek went back to his room and stared out the window, thinking about whatever came to mind.He was beginning to regret his decision to offer a wife to the Crescent Moon pack in exchange for peace.Her fragrance was the only thing that drew him as soon as he walked down the stairs, and he had no idea that a girl who wanted him dead would turn out to be his mate.He couldn't help but stare at her helplessly as she stood there, smelling like vanilla. She was stunningly beautiful and flawless in his eyes, and he had to fight the impulse to pretend as if she had no effect on him.She clearly hated him, and while he didn't blame her, he didn't give a damn about her feelings either.He said, "It changes nothing," implying that just because she was his partner, he would treat her differently.

Derek expected that if he asked for a wife, Alpha Peter's daughter, for whom he felt no attraction, would be sent to him. He was interested in marrying Luna for the sake of the name and the experience rather than out of any genuine desire to commit to her.He despised the mate bond because it made wolf packs vulnerable to attack from within.The female members of the pack generally assumed he was gay because he avoided romantic relationships, and he had a reputation as a brutal Alpha who didn't care about becoming involved with anyone.

He despised the fact that he had been dealt a partner who had nothing to do with him, but he recognized that, all things considered, this was ultimately for the best.He pledged to have no entanglements with her, and he swore to transform her wrath into fierceness so that she would be the most feared Luna in the kingdom.Mind-linking him via "Alpha" MarkDerek listened intently as he told him, "She has been taken to the flat, and there are several guards watching her; she won't be able to escape."He then gave instructions to open the doors tomorrow but to keep the guards in place.

Since Derek had posted guards to keep Chloe from escaping, she couldn't go back now that she was there.In a few months, at the dinner, he would need her to stand by his side and conceal the fact that he already had a Luna from the prying eyes of the Alphas and their daughters.While Mark's shirt was torn from Chloe's scratching and struggles, he said, "Yes, Alpha," and went back to his room for some rest.What a feisty bride!" he laughed, referring to Alpha Derek's situation as a result of his marriage to her.

Chloe slept on the floor until the next morning, when she woke up, stretched, and made another attempt to leave the house.The doors that had been sealed behind her were now open, and she stepped outside to see two guards standing watch.After deciding to stay and get even with Derek, she promptly forgot her own mind and started walking slowly out of there, leaving everyone with the impression that she had no intention of staying.

The guard on the right said, "Luna, you can't leave this house."Chloe confronted him, furious that he had referred to her as Luna.Asking, "Who the hell is your Luna?" How dare he address the Alpha she detested by calling her Luna?" she shot back angrily.She tried to go back in time and tell him, "Listen here, I am not your Luna and will never be," but he stopped her again.The guard added, "I'm sorry, but you can't leave," warning that extreme actions would be taken if she tried to escape.She asked, "Did he put you to this? What the hell does he want to achieve by keeping me locked up and not letting me go about my business as I see fit?"The second guard demanded that everyone go back inside the house.She was not going to sit around and take what was happening lying down, and she made it clear with a sneer that she intended to break away from the herd as soon as possible.She yelled at a guard who had extended his hand to block.Thankfully, he listened to her and backed away when she said, "Don't you dare" (although she had no idea that Derek was watching her and had mind linked them to let her go).

Chloe started out running the second she realized she was lost; she ran for an entire hour without success because, as a newcomer, she had no idea where to go or which way to turn. She tried to flee on foot, but the land was too vast, and she eventually heard a wolf's roar in the distance, leading her to fear that Alpha Derek had discovered her escape. She immediately took off again, this time thinking the roar must have come from the castle."What! She added despondently, "I don't know how I got here, but I ran back, and I was back at the castle in an hour."This time, however, the entry to the castle was closed, so she couldn't go up to the person she loathed so much who was waiting for her on the balcony.If you go away, Chloe, you'll eventually end up back here. He stated coldly as he watched her chest rise and fall with the effort of running away, "Stop acting like you can get away from me because you can't.Chloe became lost for hours, wandering in circles trying to find the castle, which was located in what looked like a maze. The single exit was hidden behind a wall, and from a distance, it seemed like a dead end.A malicious druid left that to guard the castle as a parting present.He said, "There is no way out, Chloe," and then he went back inside. Two of the earlier guards, who were now acting as Chloe's personal guards, snatched her by the hand and led the way back inside.She moaned, "Let me go," and looked around for Alpha Derek so she could give him her two cents. Chloe was defiant and managed to escape again after being dropped hard on the floor just inside the porch.
