Chapter 2: The Clumsy Disguise

608 Words
Kyle's knees almost snapped completely under the coercion of this absolute power. It wasn't until Zane turned around with Sera in his arms and took a step that the beast-like oppressive feeling suddenly withdrew. Kyle's legs went weak, and he nearly planted face-first. Looking wretched and gloomy, he walked out of the hall. The ceremony ended. Outside the great stone hall lay hundreds of steep white stone steps. Sera walked in front, Zane half a step behind her. Kyle, who had just lost face, was guarding Elara and walking diagonally behind them. "Ah—" A fragile cry of alarm rang out abruptly. On the flat and broad white stone path, Elara twisted her ankle and fell straight toward the edge of the high platform. This act of tripping on flat ground was laughably clumsy. But Kyle happened to fall for it. He abruptly turned and lunged over. In his panic, the muscles of his right arm instantly bulged, uncontrollably entering a half-wolf state. That massive, iron-hard wolf elbow swung fiercely backward, smashing directly into Sera's shoulder. Bang! A brutal, dull ache struck her bone. Sera was knocked straight off the edge of the high platform, her body instantly suspended in the air. A sense of weightlessness violently tugged at her heart. She was falling. Kyle was holding that woman tightly in his arms, not even sparing a glance at the person he had personally knocked off the platform. A powerful whistling sound suddenly tore through the cold wind. Zane turned into a black blur and rushed off the edge of the platform. Relying on physical explosive power far exceeding that of ordinary people, his large hand precisely gripped Sera's lower back. With one arm, he yanked her into his chest and landed steadily on the stone step buffer zone below. An intensely aggressive and scorching body temperature instantly wrapped around Sera, dispelling the chill of the fall. On the high platform, Elara shrank into Kyle's arms: "Sister... please don't blame Kyle. He was just too scared that I would fall..." Kyle tightly hugged the woman in his arms, staring down condescendingly at Sera below. He waited for Sera to scream and yell like a madwoman. As long as she dared to make a scene, he could publicly accuse her of being vicious. But Sera didn't. She stood up straight from Zane's embrace and dusted off her shoulder with extreme disgust, as if the entrails of a dead rat were stuck there. In half a month, the freezing frost period would arrive. Without the meat supplies from the hunting teams she led, the Frostwood warriors under his command wouldn't even have food to eat. When the time came, he would be the one kneeling in the snow, begging. Sera turned and left. A bizarre trace of irritability flashed in his chest as Kyle gritted his back molars. He actually didn't dare to look too long into Sera's completely unperturbed eyes. Below the stone steps. Zane watched Kyle's hurriedly fleeing back. He lowered his head, his hoarse voice sounding right against the shell of Sera's ear. "Is this the stupid wolf you once set your eyes on and prepared to dedicate your life to?" Sera ignored his teasing and walked straight back to the camp. As soon as she returned to the Bloodfang tent, her trusted handmaid came up indignantly: "Lady Sera, news has come from Frostwood. Kyle took out half a month's worth of winter dried meat and precious pelts from Frostwood to exchange at the market for a large batch of extremely rare giant-horned deer marrow, saying it's to nourish Elara's body after she got 'startled' today!"
