“I know you want me, Amara.” Azrael said as he slowly walked towards her. Amara stepped back with every step he took forward until the back of her legs hit the bed and she fell onto it. Azrael hovered above her, his face dangerously close to hers. Her heart skipped a beat. “Oh, Amara,” he breathed. He gently brushed the strands of hair away from her eyes, his fingers trailing down to her lips. “Hmmm…” Before she could react, he crashed his lips onto hers, kissing her passionately. Amara’s eyes suddenly flew open. She sat up immediately, her heart pounding wildly against her chest. The room was cold, yet beads of sweat covered her forehead. She had just dreamt of Azrael kissing her. “Oh my God, Amara,” she whispered to herself, placing a hand over her chest. “What kind of dream was that? Why would I dream of him kissing me?” She shook her head quickly. “I’m sure he used some sort of magic on me. There’s no way I would dream about him otherwise.” She tried convincing herself, refusing to admit the real reason. It was the middle of the night, and she felt unusually hot. Deciding she needed to calm down, she went to take a cold shower. The cool water ran through her hair and down her body, soothing her heated skin. After her bath, she came out wearing a robe. She walked over to the table, picked up some grapes, and sat down quietly. “I wonder how my mom is doing,” she whispered. “I must have missed a lot of classes.” She sighed. “This boy is really serious about not letting me go. But I have to at least hear from my mom.” She picked up her phone and checked it. No service. Again. She sighed and placed the phone down. Her thoughts drifted to Daniel and Lena. “I wonder if they’re thinking about me too.” A disgusted look appeared on her face. “They’re probably dating by now.” The few days she had spent in the demon realm had helped her think less about Daniel. Instead, she found herself thinking of someone new. Azrael. “Hmmm…” She let out a breath. “I have to take matters into my own hands. I’ll keep playing the good girl and make him lower his guard. Maybe then he’ll allow me to go home… or at least let me see my mom.” Sleep had completely left her eyes. She was bored, and she couldn’t leave her room even if she wanted to. She walked toward the window and pulled the curtains open. Her eyes widened. The view outside was beautiful. The sky was filled with countless stars, glowing brightly in the darkness. She stood there for a while, staring at them until her eyelids grew heavy. Slowly, she returned to her bed and fell asleep. The next morning, Amara woke up, took her bath, and got ready for the day. Breakfast was brought into her room, and she ate quietly. The entire day passed with her staying inside her room. Azrael did not come to see her. The next day was the same. And then the third day arrived. That evening, Amara sat on her bed, lost in thought. Why hadn’t Azrael come to see her for days? She hated to admit it, but somehow, she missed his annoying presence. Her eyes widened at the thought. “Miss him?” she muttered. “No, I don’t miss that cold-hearted demon.” She quickly shook her head. “I’m just… curious.” As if trying to convince herself, she stood up and walked toward the door. She banged on it. Immediately, one of the guards opened it. “What do you want, my lady?” he asked respectfully. “Where is he?” The guard looked confused. “His Highness?” “Yes. Why hasn’t he come here for days? Is he okay?” The words left her mouth before she could stop herself. The guards exchanged a quick glance. “His Majesty might simply be busy, my lady. We are sure he will come to see you once he has the chance.” Amara frowned. She slowly peeked outside the door. She had never actually stepped out of the room by herself before. “I want to go for a walk,” she said. The guards immediately shook their heads. “You cannot leave, my lady.” “Oh, come on. I’ll be quick, I promise.” “No. His Highness will be angry if we—” Before the guard could finish his sentence, Amara slipped past them and started running. “My lady!” The guards shouted behind her. One of them quickly chased after her. Amara ran through the palace hallway and spotted a door not too far away. Perfect. She would hide there until the guard passed. She quickly opened the door, slipped inside, and shut it behind her. Her eyes moved around the room in amazement. It was huge, almost as large as her own room, but much darker. Only a dim light illuminated the space. “Where am I?” she whispered. A small voice inside her warned her to leave. Go back, Amara. This place might be dangerous. But her curiosity refused to let her stop. She took a few steps forward. Then she froze. There he was. Azrael. A towel was tied around his waist. His silver hair was slightly wet, and drops of water traced down his broad shoulders and muscular chest. He had just finished bathing. Azrael sensed her presence and looked up immediately. For the past few days, he had been in seclusion, trying to recover from his punishment. His eyes darkened when they landed on her. “What are you doing here?” Amara’s eyes widened. “Uh… I’m sorry.” She quickly turned around. “I was bored, and I tricked the guards and came outside. I didn’t know this was your room. Azrael ignored her and walked over to the table where a bottle of potion rested. “Get out,” he said coldly. But Amara didn’t move. She watched as he walked toward the mirror and tried to apply the potion to his back. His movements were stiff, and it was obvious he couldn’t reach all the wounded spots. “Let me help you,” Amara said softly as she walked towards him. Azrael’s expression hardened. “I do not need your help. I asked you to leave.” His voice was sharp, but Amara wasn’t moved. She took the potion from his hand and stood behind him. Carefully, she applied it to his back. “What happened to you?” she asked quietly. “It doesn’t concern you,” Azrael replied. Silence filled the room as she continued applying the potion. A few moments later, she stepped back. “All done.” Azrael turned around to face her. Her breath caught. His broad chest and perfectly sculpted abs were right in front of her. She quickly looked away, but not before her heart skipped a beat. A low sound escaped Azrael. “Hmmm.” “You’re so stubborn,” he said. “I asked you to leave, but you didn’t listen.” Amara crossed her arms. “Will it kill you to say thank you?” Azrael stared at her for a few seconds. The room became silent. “Can I go for a walk?” Amara suddenly asked. Azrael raised an eyebrow. “Since you kidnapped me, I’ve been stuck in that room most of the time and I’m tired. It’s not like I can leave this place anyway, so the least you can do is let me walk around.” She continued complaining. “No,” Azrael replied simply. Amara’s mouth dropped open. “That’s it? Just no?” “Go back to your room. I have things to attend to.” He turned away. “And don’t do anything stupid.” “No.” Amara folded her arms and sat down on his large bed. Azrael slowly turned back to look at her. What is wrong with her today? He thought to himself. He shook his head. Without another word, he walked over, lifted her effortlessly, and placed her over his shoulder. Her legs hung in front while her arms and head rested against his back. “Hey! Put me down!” Amara shouted as she hit his back. But Azrael paid no attention to her. He calmly carried her out of his room and back to hers. The guards immediately lowered their heads when they saw him. “Why did you let her out?” he questioned them. “Forgive us, Your Highness. She tricked us.” Azrael ignored them and walked into the room with Amara still hanging over his shoulder. “Azrael!” she complained. Finally, he placed her down. “Stay here and do not do anything funny.” With that, he turned around and walked out. After leaving Amara’s room, Azrael made his way to Kailey’s quarters. The moment he entered, Kailey looked up and smiled brightly. “Hey, big brother. How are you?” she asked happily. Azrael let out a low breath. “Hmmm.” “I need you to keep my mate company today.” Kailey’s eyes immediately lit up with excitement. “Yeeeeees!” she exclaimed, jumping up. “Finally, you’re letting me meet her. Let’s go!” A small smile almost appeared on Azrael’s face at her excitement, but he quickly hid it. The two of them walked toward Amara’s room. Meanwhile, Amara sat on her bed, grumbling to herself. “So mean.” “So cold.” “So annoying.” The door suddenly opened. Amara looked up, expecting to see Azrael. Instead, she saw him standing there with a young beautiful woman beside him. Her brows furrowed. Who was she? “Hi!” the girl said cheerfully as she walked toward Amara. “You’re so pretty. I’m Kailey. I’ve heard a lot about you and I’ve always wanted to meet you, but this big head wouldn’t let me.” She pointed at Azrael. Amara looked between the two of them in surprise. “I brought you a playmate,” Azrael said to her. “Don’t mind him,” Kailey quickly interrupted. “I’m his sister.” She stretched out her hand with a bright smile. “Nice to meet you, Amara.” Amara looked at her for a moment before smiling back. There was something warm and genuine about Kailey. Her spirit somehow accepted her immediately. “We’re going to be great friends,” Kailey said confidently. Amara’s smile widened. Maybe life in the demon realm was not going to be as lonely as she thought. And for the first time since she arrived at the palace, she felt like she had gained someone she could truly call a friend.
