Jeannie now disappeared into the next room and came back holding high in the air so that it did not touch the floor a gown that Atayla had, in fact, thought was one of the prettiest that the Comtesse had given her. Of very pale gold, which actually was the colour of her hair, it was heavily embroidered round the hem, which was held out by frill upon frill of gauze, all of which sparkled with gold sequins. The sequins made a pattern on the skirt and decorated the bodice and the frills that encircled the décolletage formed small puffed sleeves that covered her upper arms. What was fortunate, Atayla thought, was that the gown was cut in such a way that it would hide completely the scar on her shoulder.
