Zephyr's heart burned, every bone in his body urging him to chase after her. But he stood still. He couldn’t move a nerve. The images of what he'd done to her earlier edged into his mind. He couldn’t take another step closer to her.

A voice sliced through the haze.
Zephyr turned around. He scanned the crossroad, searching for where the voice was coming from, but there was no one but him.
