Liam’s POV
“Get out! All of you!” I growled, flipping the dining table with one violent swing. Plates and cups crashed to the floor, shattering everywhere. “You’re all useless,” I snarled, my voice thick with rage. “None of you can even make me a simple cup of coffee? Are you all out of your f*****g minds?”
I was losing it. Really losing it.
“Alpha Liam, it was Luna Aurora who used to make it just the way you like—” one of the maids dared to speak.
“Don’t mention that name in this house!” I roared. The poor girl shrank back, trembling. “She isn’t a Luna. She’s nobody,” I spat, anger dripping from every word. “If you all want to keep your lives, you better start getting it right.”
I stormed out without another glance, slamming my bedroom door so hard the walls shook.
My wolf’s voice slid into my head. “Do you want to f**k? Might help release some stress.”
“f**k off. I’m not horny,” I snapped, irritation burning through me.
He stayed quiet for a second, then asked, “Why are you spiraling like this? Usually it’s me. What’s wrong… or are we actually missing Aurora’s presence in the house?”
I clenched my fists so tight my knuckles turned white. “f**k no. I don’t miss her. She’s a nobody, you hear me?” My chest felt tight. “I just hate that I haven’t seen her break yet. This stupid emptiness… I thought it would go away once she left, but it’s only getting worse. We shouldn’t even be bonded anymore. She did what she had to do and she left. So why the hell do I still feel like this?”
“She’s your mate,” my wolf said calmly. “She never stopped being your mate. You need the bond. You need a Luna by your side.”
He was right. I knew he was right.
“But Ashley isn’t back yet,” I muttered. “When she returns, I’ll make her my Luna. She deserves that title more than anyone.”
I dragged a hand through my hair, pushing it back roughly. Still no word from Lucian. I needed answers.
Grabbing my car keys, I headed out. The drive to his mansion didn’t take long. His security recognized me and let me through without questions. I went straight to his private room and pushed the door open.
Instead of the usual scene—naked women, moans, and chaos—Lucian was alone, leaning back with a cigarette between his lips.
“Liam,” he said, a lazy smirk tugging at his mouth as he blew out a slow puff of smoke. “Didn’t know you were coming today.”
“What happened? No company today?” I teased, walking over and dropping onto the couch across from him.
He smiled and took another drag before passing me the blunt. I accepted it without thinking.
“You know… sometimes you just want to be alone and reflect a little,” he said, the smirk still playing on his lips. Then his eyes sharpened. “So, what did you come here for?”
I didn’t waste time. “How’s our deal going?”
Lucian’s smile turned knowing.
“Ah, Aurora,” Lucian said, his voice dripping with amusement. “Your ex-wife.”
I rolled my eyes.
“Let me guess,” I muttered, “you haven’t been able to get anywhere with her yet.”
Lucian leaned back, a slow smirk spreading across his face. “Not really. We had our first kiss last night… and it was magical.”
My eyes widened. For a second, I couldn’t breathe.
“What?” The word came out sharper than I intended. “You had your first kiss with Aurora?”
“Yes,” he replied calmly, watching me.
“How?” I snapped, irritation flooding my veins. “It’s barely been a week since she left, and she’s already kissing you?” My fist clenched so hard my nails dug into my palm.
Lucian chuckled softly. “You know how women are with me. It’s hard not to fall for my charms. And it was her first kiss, so she was a little… desperate.” He took another puff from his cigarette, then added with a wicked grin, “You really weren’t a good husband, Liam. You couldn’t even kiss your own wife. But I’m glad you didn’t. Now I get to enjoy what a good kisser she actually is.”
That hit like a punch to the gut.
“That f*****g w***e,” I growled, anger burning through every word.
“Hey,” Lucian’s voice turned dead serious. “You don’t call women that in front of me.”
I frowned at him, jaw tight.
“Did you guys only kiss… or have you f****d her yet?” I asked. My blood was boiling. I could feel my pulse hammering in my ears.
“Not yet,” he said smoothly, “but it’ll happen sooner than you think. Don’t worry, I’ll do exactly as you asked.” He paused, his expression softening just a little. “Honestly, I do hope Aurora finds a man who will really love her one day. She’s cute… and funny and—”
“f**k, don’t tell me you’re falling for her?” I cut in, my voice rising. “That nobody?”
Lucian scoffed. “I don’t fall in love, Liam. You know that. I believe every woman deserves a taste of me, so why settle for just one?” A lazy smile played on his lips. “I just think Aurora deserves to be happy. It’s kinda sad that I have to do this to her.”
My chest tightened painfully.
“Do you want out of it?” I asked, my voice low.
“No,” he answered quickly. “Because if I back out, you’ll just find someone else. Might as well be me. Besides…” He smirked again. “I need that car.”
“I give you less than a week to get the job done,” I said, my voice cold. “I want to see her miserable and broken to the point she’ll never get up again.”
Lucian’s smile faded a little. “I will do as you say. Rest assured.”
I forced a smile.
“When is she coming back?” he asked.
“Who?”
“Ashley. I mean… you’re finally a free man. She should be here by now, right?”
“I have no idea,” I replied, trying to sound sure of myself. “But I’ll wait for her. She will be the next Luna. The moment she comes back into my life, everything will finally have meaning again.”
The words came out confident, but my chest betrayed me. A sharp pain stabbed through it, so strong it nearly stole my breath. It was killing me.
“Are you okay, Liam?” Lucian asked, watching me closely.
“I’m fine,” I muttered. “You don’t have to worry about me. Just make sure you do a good job.”
I stood up quickly. “I have to go now.”
He nodded. I left the room and headed out, but the pain in my chest only grew worse, twisting harder with every step. I needed my medicine.
I drove to the nearby pharmacy, jaw clenched the whole way. The moment I stepped inside, my eyes landed on her.
Aurora.
She was walking out, a small bag in her hand. The second she saw me, she froze. Shock flashed across her face. Then she quickly looked away and walked right past me without a word.
I stopped dead in my tracks.
Just like that… the pain in my chest vanished.
I spun around, heart pounding, searching for her. But she was already gone.
“What the f**k does this mean?” I whispered, staring at the empty space where she had been.
