Chapter 13

1779 Words
Aurora’s POV “I never loved you, Aurora.”
“You are so cheap to fall for him so easily.”
“You are nothing and will forever be nothing.”
“It was all a game.” The words echo in my head, sharp as broken glass. They taunt me, circling like hungry crows. I try to run, but my legs won’t move. Laughter rings out—cold, cruel, familiar. Why can’t I escape? Why am I so alone? “Aurora, please open your eyes.” A soft voice pulls me out. My eyes snap open, heart hammering against my ribs. I blink hard, trying to steady my breathing. “Aurora, you’re awake.” I turn toward the sound. Emette sits beside the bed, eyes wide with relief. “Emette…” My voice comes out barely louder than a whisper, rough and weak. “Yes, Aurora?” he answers gently. “Where am I?” My gaze drifts across the white walls, the metal rails, the faint beeps. The sharp smell of disinfectant fills my nose. “Hospital,” I murmur. “Yes. Hospital.” His voice cracks a little. “You almost got hit by a moving car. I saw you walking straight into the road… I got to you just in time.” He swallows hard, eyes shining with unshed tears. “What happened, Aurora? What were you thinking about that you didn’t even see the traffic?” I try to sit up. The room spins. “Careful,” he says quickly. He leans forward and helps me, his hands steady but gentle. I look at him properly now. A small smile tugs at my lips. “Emette… you’ve changed so much.” My smile grows as I take him in. “You grew out your hair. You look different.” His skin is fairer than I remember, softer, almost glowing. He looks so feminine and pretty. For a moment the heaviness in my chest feels a little lighter. He smiles back, but it fades fast. “Let’s talk about me later, Aurora. Tell me about you. Aren’t you supposed to be married? Where’s your husband? Why did he let you wander the streets like that?” I stay quiet. I never told him the truth about my marriage. Every time he asked how I was doing, I lied and said everything was fine. “Why aren’t you saying anything?” A hint of annoyance slips into his voice. I look down at my hands. “I… I’m no longer married to him.” “What?” His eyes widen. “You got a divorce?” I nod slowly. “Why didn’t you tell me?” Hurt flashes across his face. “I was going to tell you the moment we met. And… here we are. I’m telling you.” I force a smile, showing my teeth, trying to make the air feel lighter. It doesn’t work. “Aurora, you don’t just divorce a man like that. What did he do to you?” His voice is softer now, but the worry cuts deep. I open my mouth. “I…” The words stick in my throat. Thinking about it makes my chest squeeze so tight I can barely breathe. The pain is still fresh, raw, like an open wound. “I see the patient is awake,” the doctor says as he walks in, breaking the heavy silence. Emette turns quickly. “Doctor, does she have any injuries I should worry about?” His voice trembles with concern as he glances back at me, protective and scared all at once. “No, the patient just suffered a shock. That’s what made her unconscious,” the doctor says calmly. “I have some prescriptions for her, but nothing too serious.” “Can she be discharged today?” Emette asks, his voice tight with worry. “Yes, she can.” A wave of relief washes over me. Thank God. I hate hospitals—the smell, the white walls, the way they make me feel trapped. I just want to leave. Emette handles everything. He speaks with the nurses, signs the papers, and gathers my things. Before long, we’re walking out together toward the parking lot. My legs still feel a little shaky. When we stop in front of a sleek black car, my eyes widen. It looks expensive—shiny, powerful, nothing like anything I’ve ever ridden in. How did he get so rich? “Enter,” he says softly, opening the door for me. “Okay.” I nod and slip into the front seat. The leather feels cool against my skin. The whole ride is quiet. Emette keeps his eyes on the road, jaw tight. I stare out the window, twisting my fingers in my lap, too scared to break the silence. Trees and buildings blur past until we finally pull up to a huge mansion. My mouth falls open. This place looks like something from a dream. “Emette… how did you get so rich?” I whisper as we step out. He just smiles, a small, tired smile. “Come with me.” I follow him inside. The house takes my breath away—tall ceilings, soft lighting, beautiful furniture. Maids and workers move around quietly, nodding respectfully. Everything feels warm and elegant. We reach the living room, and I sink into the soft couch, my eyes still wandering over every detail. “Start talking,” Emette says. His voice is stern now, arms crossed. I blink, confused. “What am I talking about?” “Don’t play dumb with me, Aurora.” Annoyance flashes in his eyes. “Tell me what that man did to you.” My throat tightens. I look down at my hands, heart pounding. For a second, I want to run away from the memories. But I can’t. Not anymore. “Okay,” I whisper. I tell him everything. My voice shakes as I speak about the marriage, the lies they told me, the three long years I stayed. I describe the cold nights, the disrespect, the way I was treated like I was worthless. My chest aches when I reach the part about the divorce—how his friend came with fake sweet words, how I gave him my virginity, and how he disappeared like I never mattered. Tears burn my eyes, but I keep going, my voice barely holding together. “That f*****g son of a b***h,” Emette growls. His fists clench so hard his knuckles turn white. Pure anger burns in his face. “Why didn’t you tell me? All this time you were living with a monster?” “I didn’t want you to worry about me,” I say weakly, my voice cracking. “What?” His eyes widen with pain. “Aurora… we’re best friends. I love you so much. We grew up in that orphanage together, remember? We’re family. Do you know how painful it is for me to hear this now? To know you went through all of that alone while I had no idea?” His voice breaks at the end. The hurt in his eyes mirrors the ache in my chest. I feel small, exposed, and so incredibly vulnerable sitting there. Tears finally slip down my cheeks as the weight of everything I hid crashes over both of us. “I’m sorry, Emette… I’m so sorry.” The words slip out again and again, small and broken. I really mean them. He’s right. He’s the only family I have. The only person who has ever truly cared about me. Emette lets out a long, heavy sigh. He moves closer and takes my hand. His palm feels warm against my cold skin. “It’s fine, Aurora,” he says softly. Tears I didn’t even know were there fill my eyes and spill over. Before I can wipe them away, Emette pulls me into his arms. I bury my face in his chest and sob. My whole body shakes. The pain I’ve carried for so long pours out of me. He rubs gentle circles on my back, holding me tight. “I’m here,” he whispers. “I’m never leaving your side ever again.” His words wrap around my heart like a warm blanket. For the first time in years, I don’t feel completely alone. The comfort is almost too much. Fresh tears soak his shirt as I cry harder. After a while, he pulls back and gently wipes my wet cheeks with his thumbs. His eyes are soft and full of love. “What do you want to do now?” he asks. “You can’t let them get away with this.” Inside me, my wolf stirs. Revenge. Revenge. The word beats like a drum in my head. “Revenge,” I say, my voice stronger this time. “They think they can walk all over me like a doormat just because I’m an omega. They think I’ll take everything they throw at me. But not anymore. I want to make them pay.” Emette’s eyes shine with pride. “And I’ll make sure you do. Every single step, Aurora. I’ll help you make them pay.” He brushes another tear from my cheek. “You know how much I hate seeing you cry.” I nod slowly and stand up. My legs feel steadier now. “I won’t cry anymore, Emette. I don’t want to be that naive, stupid girl anymore.” “You aren’t stupid,” he says firmly, cutting me off. Anger flickers in his voice. “They’re the stupid ones for hurting you.” I lift my chin. “They broke me. Now I’m going to break them too.” A small smile spreads across his face. “Thank you for coming back,” I whisper, my voice cracking again. “You’re all I have now.” He stands and pulls me into another hug. I close my eyes and breathe him in. “I’ll always be here,” he murmurs. I smile against his chest, feeling safe for the first time in forever. “What are you both doing?” A deep, cold voice cuts through the moment. We break apart quickly. I turn and freeze. A tall, strikingly handsome man stands there, staring at me like he wants to tear me apart. His eyes are dark and dangerous. “Damon… I wasn’t expecting you today,” Emette says. There’s a hint of worry in his tone. “Why? So I wouldn’t see another woman f*****g hugging my boyfriend?” Damon snaps. My eyes widen in shock. “Boyfriend?”
