Aurora’s POV
I squint as the bright rays of sunlight hit my face. Slowly, I sit up on the bed. My whole body feels sore, every muscle aching in the most delicious way.
The moment my eyes fully open, it hits me.
I am no longer a virgin.
I gave myself to Lucian last night… and it was the most beautiful thing I have ever felt. My chest tightens. Tears prick at the corners of my eyes just thinking about it.
“You’re awake,” Lucian’s deep voice says softly.
I quickly look away from him, suddenly too shy to meet his eyes. The sounds I made last night echo in my head, and my cheeks burn with embarrassment.
“Hey, look at me,” he says gently.
He reaches out and lifts my chin with his fingers until our eyes meet. Then he leans in and presses a soft, tender kiss on my lips. My face grows even hotter. I drop my gaze again, unable to stop the shy smile tugging at my lips.
A small, warm laugh escapes him.
“We should get ready so we don’t miss our flight, okay?”
“Oh… okay,” I whisper.
I start to get out of bed, then freeze. The sheet slips down. I’m completely naked. Heat rushes to my face. I can’t bring myself to stand up while he’s still in the room.
“Is something wrong?” he asks.
I bite my lip. “Hmm… can you step out of the room for a second?”
He raises an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Are you shy to stand up because you’re naked, Aurora?” A playful smile curves his lips. “Come on… after everything we did last night, I didn’t think you’d still feel this shy.”
He’s right. But I still do.
“Okay, I’ll step out,” he says with a soft chuckle and walks out, closing the door behind him.
The moment he’s gone, I quickly get up and rush to the bathroom. I turn on the shower and let the cool water run over my tender body, soothing my aching muscles. When I finish, I stand in front of the mirror.
My eyes widen slightly.
His marks are all over my neck, my chest, my thighs… everywhere.
The memory of him moaning softly in my ear flashes through my mind. My face burns. I press my hands to my cheeks, trying to cool them down. The butterflies in my stomach flutter wildly, refusing to settle.
After I get dressed and step out, Lucian is still waiting outside the room. We finish packing our things together. An hour later, we head to the airport.
During the forty-five-minute flight, he holds my hand the entire time, his fingers never letting go. He stays close, a little clingy, and I love every second of it. It makes me feel wanted. Safe. Cherished.
When we land, we have to go in separate cars. He has an important business meeting. As his car drives away in the opposite direction, a quiet sadness settles in my chest. I already miss him.
Then my phone vibrates.
I open the message and see red hearts from him.
My lips curve into a big smile as warmth spreads through me. I quickly send him red hearts back, my heart feeling full and light at the same time.
I sighed deeply as I sat on the edge of my bed.
It was time. I needed to set up my own business, but I had no idea where to start. I never went to college, so job hunting would be hard. The money I saved while I was the pack’s Luna could last me for years, but I still needed something meaningful to do. I couldn’t just sit around doing nothing.
“Why don’t you ask your boyfriend for some help?” my wolf suggested.
I shook my head immediately. “I am most definitely not doing that. I don’t want him to see me as a liability. I want to make my own money.”
Just then, a notification popped up on my phone. It was from Emette. He said he wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon because he had something important to solve back in the States. I quickly replied, telling him to take his time and that I couldn’t wait to see him soon.
I pulled out my laptop and started searching for jobs. This wasn’t going to be easy, but I had to at least try.
***
It had been a few days since I last heard from Lucian. I had tried calling him so many times, but every call went straight to voicemail. No matter what I did, it never went through. A heavy worry settled in my chest. What if something bad had happened to him? I really hoped I was wrong.
How was I supposed to reach him when I only had his phone number? I didn’t even know where he lived. That thought hurt even more. He was my boyfriend, yet I knew so little about him. The stress was eating me up inside.
“Don’t get worked up over this,” my wolf said softly. “Let’s give it time. He will contact you.”
I nodded, but deep down I was scared.
Now it had been over a week, and I still hadn’t heard a single word from Lucian. I felt miserable. I had searched the internet for any clue about where he could be, but nothing came up.
I lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, my heart heavy. My stomach suddenly growled loudly. I hadn’t eaten a proper meal in days. How could I? My boyfriend had disappeared without a word.
With a tired sigh, I forced myself to get up and dragged my feet to the kitchen. The fridge and cabinets were almost empty.
“I have to go to the convenience store,” I muttered in a low, flat voice.
I threw on an oversized sweater. I knew I looked terrible, but I didn’t care. I left the house and walked straight to the store, moving like a ghost.
As I pushed my trolley down the aisle, I reached out and grabbed a carton of milk.
“I’m so excited to be going to Alpha Lucian’s house tonight,” a girl’s voice said excitedly.
My heart dropped with a heavy thud. I froze in place.
“I’m so jealous,” the other girl replied. “I was with him last week and I didn’t want the weekend to end.”
Was it really my Lucian they were talking about?
My hands started trembling. I let go of the trolley and walked over to them on shaky legs. When they noticed me, they both turned and looked at me.
“Can we help you?” one of them asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Alpha Lucian… where does he live?” I asked. My voice came out shaky, and I knew the desperation was clear in my eyes.
“Who the f**k are you to ask us that question?” one of the girls snapped.
I swallowed hard. “I… I am the new cook he hired. I didn’t get the house direction properly,” I stuttered.
The second girl looked me up and down and smirked. “You do look like a cook. I mean, just look at your eyes… those bags.”
The first girl shrugged. “He lives in Orchid Estate, number 52. He owns the whole estate, so it’s easy to find.”
“Thanks,” I whispered.
I turned away, my gaze falling to the floor. I left my trolley right there in the aisle and walked out of the convenience store without buying anything.
The moment I got home, I started pacing around the room. My hands wouldn’t stop trembling. I didn’t know what to feel. I was trying so hard not to overthink, but my mind was spinning.
“Maybe you should go to his house,” my wolf said quietly. “To confirm your suspicions.”
“Suspicions? No,” I replied quickly. “I don’t suspect him of anything. He loves me. I should be glad he’s okay. Maybe… maybe he’s also worried about me.”
My wolf stayed silent for a moment, then said, “He knows where you live, Aurora. He could have come to see you if he wanted.”
“Maybe he’s sick and doesn’t want me to catch it,” I said, my voice cracking. “You know how much he cares about me.”
“That’s fine. So just go to his house,” she pushed gently.
I walked to the edge of the bed and sat down. I hated what I was feeling. My chest felt tight, like my heart was about to rip apart. After a long moment, I stood up and went to the bathroom. I washed my face and tried to pull myself together. I wouldn’t go looking like a mess.
I put on a little makeup and slipped into simple casual clothes. Then I called a cab and gave the driver the address. It didn’t take long to reach Orchid Estate. It was beautiful and clearly expensive.
“Who are you?” the security man at the gate asked.
“I… I am—” I hesitated, unsure if I should say girlfriend.
“She’s the one Sir is expecting,” the other security man said.
A small, hopeful smile touched my lips. He knew I was coming. Lucian must have told them.
“Follow me,” the first guard said.
I nodded and walked behind him. The house was huge and stunning. My heart beat faster with every step.
“He is in here,” the security man said, stopping in front of a door.
I nodded, took a deep breath, and opened the door.
The strong smell of cigarette smoke and alcohol hit me instantly. My eyes landed first on Liam, who was smoking. He looked a little confused when he saw me. Then my gaze shifted.
Lucian was sitting there, kissing a woman.
My eyes widened in shock. Tears rushed to my eyes, burning hot.
“Lucian…” I whispered, my voice completely broken.
He pulled away from the woman at once. When his eyes met mine, pure shock filled his face.
This was a nightmare.
