29 I drove Alexander to Lonna and Max’s. She settled the boy in the kitchen with a piece of pie. “He’s so thin,” she said when she joined me and Max in the parlor. “Look, I know that you’re already overwhelmed with what’s going on,” I said, “but I had to get him out of his house.” I related what had happened and my suspicions.
