Chapter 12 Justin Lloyd I grabbed my phone with speed as it pinged, hoping it was a text from Eloise. But disappointment coursed through me when I saw it was my little brother. 'Let's eat. I made dinner'. 'Hmm. I'll be there shortly' For the umpteenth time, I slowly scrolled through my phone, hoping for a text from her, but still nothing. "I should've taken her number instead." 'She will still call' I assured myself before leaving for the dining room. "You are here... I thought I was going to come there to drag you," Levi's smile welcomed me as I walked inside the living room. He already dished out the food. "I was busy." I pulled a chair and sat. "Is everything alright? You don't look fine." Levi's honey-brown eyes pierced into mine as I looked up at him, his face demanding an answer. "Hmm... I'm fine." "You don't look like it though..." He paused. "I looked into what you asked." I looked at him, my face brightened with a smile. "So?" "I'm just curious about something... Why are you interested in Lucas Holt? That's unlike you." He squinted his brows suspiciously. "What did you find out, Levi?" He sighed, reaching for his phone. I waited anxiously as he scrolled through it, then handed it to me. "Everything you need to know is there." "I added his schedules for the last few months. You might be interested in it too." He continued. My eyes scanned through the phone. I skipped every other detail and went straight to his marital status. Single! "Single?" I muttered, lifting my gaze to Levi. "Yes. I'm surprised too that he is still single. Didn't he get married a few years back?" Levi raised a brow, curious. "And there's this lady he's been going around with... She is the adopted daughter of the Anderson's. What's her name again..." He paused, trying to remember it, and when he did, he snapped his fingers. "Rose... Rose Anderson." My grip tightened around the phone. Wow! He's been cheating on Eloise. Levi paused, his eyes widened as he looked at me. "Wait! Is that jerk cheating on his wife?" I sighed, dropping his phone on the table. "Looks like it." "Whoa! Unbelievable! I bet his wife have no idea about it." Does she really not? If my hunch is right, then I would bet Eloise knew about his cheating. She looked sad, so she definitely knew about it, or maybe he just wasn't treating her right. Levi dragged his fingers through his hair. "Why not f*****g get a divorce if he wants to mess around, huh? God! I'm so pissed." He sighed. "You still haven't told me what you wanted that for, Justin? I mean, why you are interested in that cheating bastard." Levi didn't look like he was ready to give up. "Just because." I shrugged. "Just because? What kind of reason is that?" "Table manner." I glared at him teasingly, and he chuckled. "Fine!" Silence thickened around us. Only one question echoed in my head. If Eloise knew about his cheating, why was she still there? "Levi?" "Hmm?" He looked at me. I stared at him. I needed to figure out something, and he was the only one I could talk to about it, but I stopped to ask myself. Is talking to him a good idea? "Never mind," I shook my head and resumed forcing myself to eat. "Alright." I was glad he didn't press on. "What will you do if you suspect your friend is having difficulties with her marriage? Like your female friend," I blurted out before I could hold myself back, and he paused. He blinked his eyes. Damnit! I shouldn't have talked about that. "Wait... Your friend... Do you mean Lucas's wife?" His eyes widened. I sighed. "Just answer my question, Levi. This has nothing to do with Mr. Lucas or his wife." I rolled my eyes, hoping he would buy that. "You just sounded suspicious." "Anyway, what kind of difficulties?" "Never mind, Levi. I'll figure it out." "Come on, Justin. Don't leave me hanging..." He paused and shrieked. "Don't tell me you have a crush on this friend... A married woman!" He shrieked. "Seriously?" I groaned. "I knew talking to you about it won't help." "It's just crazy. I know you when you are in love, and right now, I can tell you are." Heat crept up my chest, and my breath stuttered. Even after years of separation, I still couldn't bring myself to let go of her. I had tried to move on over the years, but it never worked. I always found myself crawling back to her. I chuckled dryly. "You are crazy, and you know it, Levi." But I didn't deny it. Instead, there was this peace I felt within me. That it was obvious I was in love with Eloise. I stood and grab my phone. "I'll be in my room." "Alright. Good night. I still got some work to do." He smiled at me heartily before I left for my room. I slumped on the bed once I stepped inside my room. Again, I scrolled through my phone for a text from Eloise, but there was none, so I gave up. Maybe she's never going to contact me. ***** "Good morning, Justin." Levi's voice came on from the dining room as I descended the staircase. "I made breakfast. We should eat." "I'm late for work, Levi. I'll have breakfast later." He paused and looked at me suspiciously. "That's unlike you. Are you skipping breakfast?" "See you at the office later." I ignored his question and walked away, and I heard him chuckling behind me. 'Eloise...' For some reason, I couldn't get her off my mind. Something kept pushing me. To go check on her, and I didn't fight it. I drove to Mr. Lucas's apartment. 'What are you going to do now? Go knock on her door?' My subconscious mind asked me, and I huffed, resting my head on the headrest and staring into space. I was still there, contemplating on what to do when I saw her leaving the house, and I quickly adjusted on the seat as I watched her walk away. "Where is she going this early morning?" I muttered. For a second, I wanted to follow her secretly, but quickly dismissed the thought. I didn't want to look like a stalker. What if she found out about it and got mad at me? 'Just follow her. She won't notice' Just as I was about to follow her, my phone rang, and I paused to take it. Levi? "Hey, Levi." "Mr. Louie called an urgent board meeting. You should be there in ten minutes." Shit! Not now, please...
