Damien walked into the penthouse. They had called it quits early that night because Donna had been foolish and eaten from the deli tray, yet again, and gotten ill because of it. Damien decided he needed a shower anyways. He hadn’t been home in two days. They were a week away from completion on the album and then he was off to Malibu. He couldn’t wait to hit the beaches and chase the beach bunnies. Damien tossed his keys on the table. He heard music playing and knew Eve was still up. Damn it he had hoped to miss her. Well if he kept it short and sweet, he could hit the shower and lock himself away in his bedroom with minimum fuss. Damien walked quickly past the living room where Eve was stretching out her leg by placing her heel on the shoulder of a rather tall muscular and attractive topless young man. Damien stopped dead in his tracks and turned to get a better look. She was standing so close, and his hands were on her thigh offering her stability while she leaned over and touched her toe. Damien didn’t even know his wife could get into that position, and who the hell was this guy? He stood at the edge of the room watching for a few minutes, but the couple didn’t even seem to notice that he had come in. The man had leaned into Eve to stretch the muscle more his hands coming inappropriately close to a place that strictly belonged to Damien alone. A seductive smile on his handsome face and Eve giggled at something he had whispered. Damien cracked, clearing his throat to announce his presence he walked into the room. The couple turned to face him. The man released Eve, and she stood up on her straightening the transparent black silk wrap draped around her tiny waist. It was incredible how good she looked in tights her dark hair pulled back in a tight bun. “Oh, hello Damien. I thought you would still be at the studio.” Eve said with an innocent smile. “Obviously, and what are you up to?” He asked trying hard to keep his temper from his tone. “This is Marcus from school; he is my dance partner for the production. We have to practice together a lot to get it flawless.” Eve said looking at Marcus with desire in her eyes and a flirtatious grin. “Sometimes all night.” Marcus grinned back, and Damien almost lost it. He knew that look; he had given that look to many lonely wives. “Oh, Marcus this is Damien,” Eve said in an afterthought. “Her husband.” Damien pointed out since Eve seemed to forget that part of the introduction. Marcus held out his hand to Damien. “Hi.” Damien glared down at Marcus’s outstretched hand and then back up at the man with a scowl on his face. “Get out.” Was all he said. “What?” Marcus asked confused and surprised. Damien remained calm and composed on the outside as he said it once more. “Get your shirt and get out before I throw you over the balcony.” Marcus looked questioningly at Eve. “She’s five foot two and a hundred pounds soaking wet do you think she could stop me if I grab you by the throat and sent you flying?” Marcus grabbed his shirt off the couch and quickly left the penthouse. The door slammed, and Damien took a calm breath than started toward the stairs to have his shower. “That was uncalled for.” Eve snapped following him upstairs. “How am I supposed to work with him after you threaten him like that?” “Not my problem.” “Fine then, you don’t want him here we will rehearse at his place.” She said calmly walking toward her room. “Oh wait, there is no bus back from that area this late, and I can’t drive.” Eve stopped to think. “Oh no biggie, I’m sure he’ll let me crash there.” She said entering her room and shutting the door. Damien’s calm snapped. She would not. No wife of his was going to be whoring around behind his back he’d kill the bastard first. Damien burst into Eve’s room, and she jumped clutching her shirt to her chest. She had been in the midst of changing. Damien waved his finger at her. “You are not to see him again.” He ordered. “What? No, I have to see him; I already told you we are partners.” “I will not have you traipsing about town behind my back. I will shoot the next man I see in this house.” He warned. “You will not,” Eve called his bluff. “Try me. I know what that guy is up to.” “Nothing is going on.” “But it will.” “It will not,” Eve said offended that he would suggest it. “I know that guy’s game. I invented that guy’s game. I have ruined many marriages with that game.” Damien yelled. “Who cares then there is no marriage to ruin,” Eve yelled back. “You don’t want me, and I don’t want you. So go to Malibu and leave me be.” What did she mean she didn’t want him? Every woman wanted him. Granted Eve had stopped calling, but he had taken it as a blessing, that she had given up. Not that she had replaced him. How could she replace him? Eve placed her hand on his chest and pushed Damien out of her room. “Good-night Damien.” She said and shut the door in his face. She threw him out! How dare she! Damien reached for the knob, but it would not turn. She had locked him out! *** It was late morning when Damien staggered down the stairs in nothing but his pyjama pants. It had been a long time since he had been able to sleep in. Damien paused in the hallway looking into the living room on his way to the kitchen. Eve was in her bikini out on the balcony with a handful of people laughing and hot tubbing. She had not even come to wake him or invite him to join them. Damien walked over to the door and looked out at the happy group. They were all young in Eve’s age bracket, at least ten years younger than him easy. Damien had never felt his age more than he did at that moment, hovering in the doorway like a disapproving father. “Eve.” He called to her, and she peeked over her shoulder then rolled her eyes. “Pay no mind to him.” She told her friends. “Pretend like he’s not even here. In fact, as of next week, he won’t be.” She laughed, and the others joined in. Eve climbed out of the hot tub and walked over to Damien who grabbed her by the arm and dragged her inside. “Who are these people?” “Friends. You have yours, and I made mine. Being insanely wealthy makes me insanely popular.” She grinned then pat him on the arm as if she had just remembered something. “Oh, on your way out today can you remember to remind security that we will need extra parking passes for next weekend’s Halloween party. Thanks.” She said turning to leave. Damien grabbed Eve’s arm forcing her to stay and face him. “Party? What party?” “I’m having a big Halloween bash. It’s going to be great. Dane is helping me plan it. It’s strictly an adult thyme,” she grinned slyly, “so it should be pretty fun. I got my costume picked out already; but don’t worry we won’t bother you, I made sure it was scheduled for after you fly out for Malibu so we won’t get in your way.” She promised on her way back to the hot tub. There was a big party planned in his house, and he had not even been on the guest list. At what point had he become an outcast in his own home? When had his wife decided he was not worthy of her time? This simply would not do. Damien served himself breakfast and watched from the living room while he ate. Eve never once turned to look at him. He might as well have not even been there. After breakfast, Damien dressed for the day and went out to the balcony to say goodbye to his wife who barely acknowledged him. Annoyed Damien left for the studio. He still had some work to do, but he would be damned if he was going to be forgotten in his own home. *** Eve sat down at the table accepting the coffee that her sister-in-law offered with a big smile. “So?” Kat asked sipping her coffee. “I can’t believe it, but I think it might be working,” Eve admitted. “He was annoyed today.” “And how did Marcus work out,” Chase asked from her seat at the table. Eve couldn’t contain her enthusiasm. “Incredible, Damien threatened to throw him over the balcony. It took everything in me not to laugh.” Chase smiled satisfied with herself. “Damien’s been the other man for far too long. I knew if the tables were turned he would not take it well.” “Well, it would appear that you were correct. I have been forbidden to see any man ever. Not that I intend to obey.” Eve snickered. “That a girl, don’t let him rule you. Did you let it slip about the party yet?” Chase asked. “Yes, but I don’t see how it’s going to help me when he’s going to be on the west coast.” “He won’t. I know my son. Damien will be at the party; he can’t stand rejection, he’ll do whatever it takes to find his way back into your good graces. It’s a game, and he hates to lose.” Chase said pleased with herself. It was time for Damien to feel the sting of his own game. “So, what do I do next?” Eve asked eagerly awaiting Chase’s wisdom. “You get yourself a sexy outfit and then make sure that at the party no matter what he tries you have absolutely no time at all for him.” “Don’t worry we’ll be there to help you out,” Kat promised. “Now what do you say we go shopping and find you that perfect outfit?” Eve liked that idea very much. When she was done with her husband, Damien would be begging to occupy her bed.
