POV: Aiden
I rubbed my temple listening to my beta Damien complaining. “We’re gonna be so late” he whined. I rolled my eyes visibly. “If she is your mate she will still be your mate when we get there.” I finished tying my tie and looked in the mirror. I looked professional and I nodded to myself. I was going to this party for pack relations. I highly doubted me or my beta would mate with the daughter of such a large pack. I did want to talk about a possible ally ship with them.
I was the alpha of a very small pack bordering their pack. We had maybe ten families in our entire pack. We admittedly didn’t have a lot to offer them. That is where my charm comes in. I looked in the mirror, giving myself a once over again before heading toward the car. Luckily the drive wasn’t too long. We were the closest pack to Sun Chasers. My Beta Damien shifted in his seat. He was excited for this. He had been looking for his mate since the day we turned 18.
Damien and I were born the same year only a few days apart. So we both shifted around the same time. We were basically brothers. He was eager to find his mate. I wasn’t so sure. We had such a small pack that I wasn’t ready to bring in a Luna. I had plans to expand and grow, and I really wanted something to show of my work before I brought a mate home.
As we pulled up the the pack house drive I was amazed at how big it was. My pack house, if you could even call it, that was basically a two-story home. This building was easily four or five floors. It looked like a mansion. My eyes widened and I took it all in as we got out of the car.
“Wow what a place” Damien said behind me. I nodded to him.
The party was going on in the back. I could hear it from here. We made our way to the back and I scanned the crowd. Once my eyes fell on the Alpha and Luna, I made my way over to them and waited my turn to get to speak with them.
Once it was my turn to approach, I bowed in respect. We both were Alphas, so there was no reason to but this was his pack land, so it was good to show respect. “I am Alpha Aiden of the Crimson Moon pack, this is my Beta Damien” I gestured back to him behind me. “Pleasure to meet you” Alpha Ryan smiled and shook my hand. “You are our neighbors to the south yes?” I nodded my head. “If we get a chance I would like to speak with you in private sometime” I said. Alpha Ryan nodded his head. “Perhaps tomorrow, enjoy the party tonight”. That reminded me of why we were here. “Where is the birthday girl? How did her blessing go?” The Alphas' face twisted and confusion crossed my mind.
That was all interrupted by a sudden wave of smell. The freshest spring time smell. A fresh meadow in bloom. ‘Mate’ my wolf howled in my head. I began to scan my surroundings, trying to decipher where the smell was coming from. It was faint, so odds were she wasn’t in the crowd. I scanned the packhouse, my eyes locking on to a silhouette in a window. “Mate” I said.
I was so focused on finding the source of the smell I didn’t notice my Beta's calls behind me. Or Alpha Ryans questions. All I could focus on was the meadowsweet smell. I entered the back of the pack house and the smell led me to the stairs. ‘Go now mate is so close’ my wolf howled in my head. I quickly made my way up the first flight of stairs. Nothing on this floor. Then the next. This was the right floor. I followed my nose to a door.
‘Open the door’ my wolf demanded. “I’m not going to just barge into her room.” I knocked softly on the door. I heard some shuffling on the other side but then nothing. ‘Open the door’ my wolf howled. I waited again after a while of not hearing anything, I tried the door handle to find it was locked. ‘Break the door down’ my wolf screamed. “I’m not busting her door down”, I mumbled to myself.
I knocked a bit harder. “Please open the door”. I pleaded my wolf was going crazy being so close yet so far. I was slowly losing it and started to contemplate whether I should break the door down. That’s when I heard the lock on the door slide and the door swing open.
