CHAPTER SEVENTEENCash May 7, 2016 Ten miles from the COP, our combat outpost, my battle buddy Sinclair and I have orders to scope out possible landmines in the area. We’re part of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, or EOD. The sergeant wanted to move the COP closer to the mountains to help keep people healthy with the cooler temperatures. Sinclair and I separate and move in opposite directions. A rustling noise in the desert brush stops me in my tracks at first, then I follow the sound.
