Zane POV
It is my turn to run patrols, and I couldn't be happier to get out of the pack house. Zeus's newfound ability to read minds and the tension between Elara and Zeke are becoming too much to handle. I am finding reasons to disappear from the pack house, just to avoid the drama. It isn't fair to Elara, but I am desperate for a break.
Cinder looks me up and down when I reach the gate, and a scowl pulls on her lips. "Why are you here?"
She and I have never gotten along, but we have learned to work together peacefully. Or at least that is what I thought.
"What do you mean? It is my day to work patrols."
She shakes her head and tries to push me back in the direction of the pack house. "You aren't needed here."
I scoff loudly. "And exactly where am I needed?"
