The distance between them didn’t disappear overnight.
But something changed after that night in his apartment.
They began trying harder.
He invited her more often into his world—simple dinners with friends, late-night walks through quiet streets, and small gatherings where no one cared about her last name. In those moments, she felt lighter, as if the weight of her family’s empire had finally slipped from her shoulders.
Yet the other side of her life continued to grow louder.
One morning, her father called her into his office again.
The large windows overlooked the city skyline, the same view where powerful deals were made daily.
“I have something important to discuss,” he said calmly.
She sat across from him, sensing the seriousness in his voice.
“Our company is expanding further into the European market,” he explained. “I’ll be spending several months in Milan and Paris overseeing the transition.”
She nodded slowly.
“And I want you there with me.”
The words caught her off guard.
“Me?”
“You’re my only child,” he continued. “One day, all of this will belong to you. It’s time you learn how the empire works.”
The responsibility in his voice was unmistakable.
For the first time, he wasn’t speaking to her as a daughter.
He was speaking to her as his successor.
That evening, she met him again at their favorite café.
“You look serious,” he said, noticing her expression.
She took a deep breath.
“My father wants me to move to Europe for a while,” she said quietly. “To work with him.”
He blinked, surprised.
“How long?”
“Months… maybe longer.”
Silence stretched between them.
The city noises outside suddenly felt louder.
“So you’re leaving,” he said softly.
“I don’t want to,” she replied quickly. “But it’s important to him. And maybe… it’s important for me too.”
He looked down at the table, thinking.
“This is the world you come from,” he said after a moment. “The world you were always meant to step into.”
She reached for his hand.
“But that doesn’t mean I want to step away from you.”
His fingers tightened slightly around hers.
“Long distance isn’t easy,” he admitted.
“I know.”
They both understood what this meant.
Different continents.
Different time zones.
Different pressures.
But sometimes love isn’t about avoiding difficult choices.
Sometimes it’s about trusting that the connection is strong enough to survive them.
“I don’t want to hold you back from your future,” he said quietly.
“You’re not holding me back,” she replied. “You’re part of it.”
For the first time that evening, he smiled faintly.
“Then we’ll figure it out.”
Outside, the city lights shimmered like distant stars.
Her life had once been defined by walls and gates.
Now it was defined by choices.
And as she walked beside him through the busy streets that night, she realized something important—
Love doesn’t remove difficult paths.
It simply gives you someone worth walking those paths for.
