Athena "The worst thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies." I shook my head with a sigh before closing the door behind me and making sure it was locked. "So! You have been seeing my boyfriend all these years behind my back?" I spoke in a calm voice, leaning against the bedroom doorframe with my arms crossed along my chest as I watched Amanda struggle to untie her boyfriend. The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. "F#ck off bitch." Amanda hissed at me, shifting her eyes from Max to me. I have never seen anyone as shameless as Amanda. She behaved as if this were her usual home. I wanted to take a few pictures of her naked and post them online but today wasn't the time and decided to leave the shameless and disgusting couple alone. "I will deal with you guys later," I spoke calmly as if my heart didn't ache. I was dying from inside and out but it wasn't time to hold onto the past A week later, "Good morning, Leanna. What are your plans for the day?" I greeted my roommate happily. "Nothing special. Just like any other day." She yawned, putting on her round brown glasses. "What a boring human! I wanted to do something crazy on my birthday with my best friend," I sighed, looking at my phone. "Not today sweetheart, I have a date." she grinned. "Can I tag along?" I pouted. "Not a chance," she responded, jumping out of bed. Today was my 17th birthday in this life. I received a call from my dad urging me to go back home. That was the last place I wanted to go. The peaceful place that I called home turned into my worst nightmare. I sighed over my thoughts as I looked at the photo beside my bed. It was a photo of me and my mom. She was the most loving and kindest woman in this universe but sadly cancer took her away from me. I was only five at that time. "Stop staring at that photo again? Your mom would like to see you happy." Leanna patted my shoulder. "I miss her," I whispered. "Aren't you gonna go back to that place?" Leanna asked, trying to change the subject. I shook my head 'no' placing the photo back. Leanna and I have been friends since childhood. She was like a shining knight of armor in my life. Always there when I need her the most and stands up for me when I'm bullied. "Just go there, girl. It's almost three years since you left that place. That woman and her kids are enjoying the life your mom worked her ass off. Can't you just stand up for yourself? They took everything from you, you can't let them win." Leanna yelled "My life, my dad, and my home. They took everything away from me. Nothing is left to take." I mumbled. "Get out of your comfort zone. No one will fight for you but yourself." She gave me an assuring look. The black-skinned girl before my eyes, Leanna Thompson was the best friend I had and the only person who cared about me. She was cute but always hid her beautiful face under makeup and the weird red wig. The people who didn't know her called her weird because of the old-fashioned clothes she wore but to me she was like my God. She doesn't talk much about her family but what I know is that her family background was not something to joke about "Walk out without your makeup and I will go back." I frowned because I knew she wouldn't dare remove her makeup after all the years of hiding herself. "Okay," she agreed, scaring me to death. I stared at her with a shocked expression. "You can't be serious." I gasped. "You won't go back on words." She smiled, pulling her wig off. "I don't want to go back there. You know that." I sighed, passing a hand through my hair. "Chickening out, huh?" she gave me a cold stare. "Fine. I will go." I admitted. --------- My heart raced as I stood in front of the house. I was terrified by the memories that flooded my mind. I didn't want to come back here but I did so anyway. I sighed as I stood at the entrance of my home. I hadn't called it home since my mother passed away and my dad chased me out on my fourteenth birthday in the name of protecting me. My father had asked me to return today for a family dinner. I bet he didn't even remember what day it was today. It was also my mom's death anniversary. I trembled as I stretched my arm to ring the bell. I let out a sigh, standing confidently in front of the door. The door opened and there she was my dear stepmom who despised me from the moment she laid her eyes on me, cursing me that I was the reason why her kids were called bastard kids. Blaming as if I was there when she hooked up with a married man. "What are you doing here b***h?" she hissed quietly. "Aren't I allowed to come back to my own home?" I smirked evilly. "Disappear from our life as you did in the past. I don't want to see you. Not even a strand of your hair." She gritted her teeth in anger. The redhead before me was my stepmom Prim Sumners who took over this household as soon as my mom breathed out her last breath. My dad had an affair with her because the moment she showed up, she already had Amanda who is older than me by three years, and Amy, (the same age as me)with her implying they were Dad's kids. He not only welcomed them but also tossed me aside and gave his full attention to his new wife and kids leaving me on my own. I became the bastard child who was born out of the wardrobe YET my dad stood with the outsiders and supported them in bullying me. "Athena? You are finally here? Come in and have a seat." My father smiled, pulling me in. I knew he was up to something but I obediently followed him. I wondered what kind of woman gave birth to a man like my father. He spent years without meeting me but he never asked how I was doing. What did I expect from a father who could throw their kids out? "What's it, Mr. Black? Did you call me back to entertain you and your family?" I whispered to him smiling. "Play along or you won't like the consequences," he smiled awkwardly. "Are you gonna throw me out or lock me in a dark room as you did in the past," I scowled. "Shut the f**k up," my father said demandingly. I regretted why I had to come back to this house. It's not like I expected something nice but now, they were out of line forcing me. I'm no longer that weak little girl who would put up with everything. I glanced over at my two sisters looking at me disgustingly before smiling and then to the cowardly Max who was hiding behind Amanda "Okay," I grabbed a bottle of wine and poured it down on my father's head. "Enjoy," I shouted, slamming the door to their faces. I didn't care about anything, I just wanted to disappear away from them and if possible never cross paths with them.
