Hands on hips, Jade surveyed the scene, listening to the groans. As she turned around, a light dusting of glitter shimmered in the air about her for a moment and then was gone. Signs of c*****e were everywhere—splintered chairs, upended tables, shattered glass, and people leaning against walls for support as they gazed around in blank confusion through swollen eyes. Several of those doing the groaning had split lips and swollen or broken jaws. Teeth, blood, and other bodily fluids were sprayed about in a disgusting mural of violence.
